I've got fine flat hair and no products have ever done much to help it. I shampooed with this the morning of having my hair coloured. My hairdresser was just grabbing handfuls of my hair, unable to believe how thick and voluminous my hair was. She asked what I had used.
Personally this worked for my hair type and I will continue to buy it for my fine, flat, oily prone hair
This product isn't exactly cheap, but it's thick and doesn't require a ton to build a lather. I often need twice as much product as a manufacturer recommends, but in this case, the recommended quarter-sized dab really is enough.
I use a leave-in with silicone every time I shampoo, tinted dry shampoo on in-between days, oil masks once or twice a week, and occasionally styling creams/sprays. This shampoo has no problem with any of that. It cleans really well.
In terms of being gentle on color, unfortunately I think it's rougher than other non-clarifying shampoos from this brand. Clarifiers in general tend to be hard on dye, so it's not a real shock. It's a good option to remove build-up as needed, but if you're really trying to retain your dye, you probably don't want to use this more than twice a month.
You also want to follow up with some conditioning, as there isn't really any slip to speak of in the shampoo itself.
The cap is easy to open even with slippery hands and is large enough to hold the bottle upside down when it starts to get low. The smell is herbal but not unpleasant (I like it significantly better than the scent of the Hydrate Sheer Shampoo).
Overall a good clarifier.
