The reason of 3 star is due to its durability. It came with many lint balls after I washed them during this trip. Even though it was the first time to use them. I was hoping more durable quality, not for a one time use. Also the package arrived with ripped sacket which was a little disappointing. Hence the overall review score.
They are fine and comfortable if you are aiming for an affordable short term use.

NOTE ON DURABILITY: When I walk around WITHOUT my slippers on, just these socks, they wear out FAST. As in a pair a week fast, almost as fast as cotton does (we have 125 year old floors that are kind of rough). Wearing them inside footwear, such as slippers or boots (as they are designed to be used), they work great. Very durable. I will admit I have had wool socks that lasted a bit longer, but at the expense of massive itching.
As another note: wool socks (these included) are SLIPPERY on carpeted steps. Just watch out if you are not familiar with wool.
Anyway, great price, great socks, picking up 2 orders this time to get me through the winter.
I even tried them out for a night when it was chilly. Of course they were too big for my feet (woman's size 7.5), but they did keep my feet warm and worked great on my cold tile floor keeping my feet cozy.
Keep in mind these are very thick so you need to wear shoes that would allow for the extra bulk. Also, wash in cold water and allow to air dry. If you put these in the dryer they will shrink. They do dry very fast though. This was a great purchase and bargain for 3 pairs of socks of such great quality. I would definitely recommend these for wearing with boots, lounging around or sleeping on cold nights.
2 of 6 pairs had bad seam work out of the package, and a 3rd pair is now becoming un-seamed. They never had good elasticity, all 6 pairs, and they are marketed as "hiking" socks, well hiking socks should stay up the whole time, these are no different than what I can buy at a wal mart or k mart. I would have never bought these if not describe as they were which is my biggest complaint, I can care less if you have a crappy product but I was Bamboozled by reviews and description.
For all you youngsters who buy the latest synthetics (like polypropylene) that claims to have such great wicking and Odor-controlling properties, i would tell you: I have been there-done that. I don't think you can beat wool socks---especially these wool socks. Wool is what i think of as being, adaptogenic. They don't seem to get too hot, and they don't get too cold. Whats more---even if you get them wet, they do not lose their ability to keep your feet warm. Finally: when i get home, after chasing Bambi's daddy through the swamp-grass, the slough, and the lake-bottom, for 2-3 days, and take off my boots, nobody runs, screaming, cursing, and holding their nose, out the door!--------now, that is something. Try that with $40 synthetics. You take them off and throw them on the floor, i can guarantee, the dog is gonna want to roll on them.
I was preparing for a total knee replacement, and anticipating a few weeks of down time earlier this month when I decided to take a chance with several highly recommended Merino Wool products. My surgeon’s office and other online resources specifically suggested this material. I shopped around locally and online, and I think I found some great products here.
I live in Wisconsin, so it’s cool here in December. Living here for most of my life, I already have plenty of warm weather gear, but most would be far too warm for the indoor use I intended during recovery. I tend to be warm, but my feet get cold, and I wanted to find something that would be warm but not hot, breathable, and soft, and Merino Wool continued to come up as I searched. I’m blessed with the means to afford to try-out new things, and amazon’s wardrobe program really made this easy.
The primary reason for my review was to share the things I learned about this product in practical application. Merino Wool is very comfortable to the touch. It’s not smooth like a silk, but it’s soft, thicker, and far from scratchy. The amazing thing to me is how comfortable it is, no matter the environment. It’s warm enough to wear around the house alone, and terrific under a boot while outdoors. Most “thermal” undergarments I’ve owned are nice while outdoors, but too warm for indoor wear. Many expensive materials promote their warmth, breathability and moisture-wicking properties, but I often feel too warm, and then damp after a short time indoors. Merino wool, no matter how thick seems to adjust to a normal, and comfortable body temp, indoors or out. Unlike cotton, it also stays dry under clothing, and in boots or slippers.
Merino Wool blends that exceed 65% seem to be perfect for daily wear and lounging indoors, and most who wear them say that they’re an excellent choice for hiking, climbing, or other outdoor activities. I shopped around locally and online, and Amazon’s pricing is competitive, their convenience #1.
After my original undergarment purchase, I came back to purchase many more undergarments, pants and shirts. That’s probably the best indicator of satisfaction, and it’s prevalent among those who’ve purchased Merino Wool.
My favorite socks for lounging indoors are below. Really comfortable, A+!
