Was mir allerdings nicht gefällt, ist die Stärke des Lichtes
I put this light on my dog when I took her out last night, as I forgot to buy new batteries for the microlights that I normally use. It was raining then.
Please do not — I repeat, do not — buy this light if you intend to put it on your dog and he/she will jump or shake his/her body, such as to shake off rainwater from his/her fur, while it is on him/her. The light may go off. After turning it back on, it also may not operate in the mode you desire.
Two bad designs contribute to this problem. One, the batteries do not sit flat in the casing. They slant. Therefore, contact between the batteries and the metal contacts is not always maintained. Two, the casing is secured with only one screw (at one end of it). Therefore, when the light is shaken, the batteries inside can move, and contact is lost.
INITIAL REVIEW below
I bought two of this item. It is very thoughtful of the manufacturer to include the smallish screwdriver to use when we need to replace the batteries. And throwing in the keychain microlight as a bonus is also appreciated. Now to the nitty-gritty.
THE MAIN LIGHT
This light is all right if you hold it, because then you can direct the beam of light away from your eyes. It is also all right if you clip it to something on either side or the back of your body. It is not all right if you clip it to something on the front of your body, because of the glare of the light beam, unless you have something else to serve as shield.
The claimed luminance of the LED is 25 lumens. Unfortunately, much of this is severely diffused and some get blocked (so, lost) by the silicone case. Therefore, the light is good only to illuminate your immediate area. As another reviewer has pointed out, it throws useful light across only some 5 feet. I have a few microlights, each rated at only one-fifth the lumens, but they can throw light as far as some 50 feet. In fact, when they are on beacon mode, cat’s eyes positioned up to some 100/120 yards away reflect the light from it.
Caution: If you clip it to your dog’s collar, I would suggest that you do not clip it to the front part. Dogs’ eyes are very sensitive to light. That is why they can see even when it is too dark for us to discern anything. On the other hand, they cannot see well when the light is very bright. Therefore, if you clip it to the front part of the collar, your dog may not be able to see things directly in front of him/her.
I am not quite satisfied with the light, and definitely will not put it any where on my furry companion. I have put mine in certain places in my home to serve as emergency lights in the event of power failure (brownouts/blackouts). Of course, one must bear in mind that my requirements may be totally dissimilar to those of many other people’s. What is unsatisfactory for the goose need not necessarily be also so for the gander.
I am quite certain that the microlight that comes with the main light is one of the earliest commercial models, if not the earliest commercial model, made by Laughing Rabbit Inc., (LRI) of Blachly, OR. LRI has since discontinued the model. I bought two some ten years ago.
Caution: Do be very careful when you unscrew the cover to replace the batteries. First, the screws are so tiny and black that once dropped, you may not be able to find them. Second, the switch assembly is delicate, and the LED can come free of the casing. Make sure you take careful note of how and where both are positioned, or else you will have the devil of a time putting them back together again and get the light to work.
In addition, even though I live in the city, my street is quite isolated and there is no lighting. I use this to light my walk up to the house. I can't tell you how many people have asked about this light and think its the coolest thing since sliced bread! Well worth the few dollars it costs
However, last year I bought 20 of the current versions shown here, not realising you needed three pushes to
turn on / off. This one >>>1) first push: on white light; 2) second push red light on; 3) third push, flashing red on;;
4) fourth push: FINALLY ! OFF. This is ridiculous and makes this a no starter. If you like things to operate smoothly
avoid this annoying badly engineered item. I sent all 20 of mine back for refund. I have looked and looked for the original version but can't find any anywhere. Can you help ?
I use the flashing red mode since I run at night in the dark since I feel the flashing will grab attention more than the steady red. I use the flashing mode on both front and back of my jacket cause I want to be visible to others from both directions. I don't use the white light ever since it's not bright enough for me. I have LED Safety Light - Clip On to Stay Safe and Be Seen at Night - Great for Running, Walking, Kids, Dogs, Hiking, Camping, Trail or Bike - USB rechargeable, compact and just 2 Oz that I use as my main light for lighting my path.
