I bought this as a replacement for a 12 year Bodum garlic slicer that cracked when I dropped it. It's not nearly as good as my old slicer. I had a great deal of difficulty using it the first few times because it was so difficult to open, and difficult to tighten it down properly once the garlic cloves were in position. The slices of garlic are also thicker than my old one produced, and it can't handle large cloves or elephant garlic. I will set it aside as a gift for someone else who's not as picky about kitchen gadgets.
Update 4/18/16: I found a Bodum garlic slicer on eBay and bought it. Donated the Chef to Good Will. Good riddance!
it doesn't process a lot of garlic at once. It's quite small, but 2 cloves at a time and you get nice little garlic slices that look neat in my food. I made some chili today and used it. It looked cool floating on the chili before I stirred it in. I used 3 pcs.
Pampered chef has a much (much!) better version, which I have. I got this for my mom's house, since she didn't have one. This tries to make things complicated by adding a spring and other nonsense. My other garlic slicer is simple, efficient and easy to use.
If you like garlic, do get a garlic slicer though. They are amazing. Just don't get this one.
This thing is a joke. I hate the smell of garlic on my hands, but I love to cook with fresh garlic so I bought this gadget. It is easily the worst kitchen gadget I've ever purchased. It is so much work to get the thing closed with a very small amount of garlic in the device that it is just more frustration than it's worth. Ugh. Nice idea, crappy product.
