We are unable to connect to this device with any of our Miracast/WiDi compatible Lenovo Thinkpad T-series Laptops. We have also attempted with a Surface Pro 2 with no success. All devices have Win10 Pro 1809. Additionally, now that WiDi/Miracast was removed from Android, most phones will also be unable to connect to these devices. Research clearly seems to indicate Miracast and WiDi are essentially shit right now, and you are basically rolling the dice when trying to connect devices together. BEWARE. I would strongly suggest opting for a chromecast (end-user) or an Airtame 2 solution (enterprise) instead of WiDi/Miracast.
Couldn't be happier! I was worried that my old 7 inch Asus android tablet (running android 4.02) would not be able to miracast to my 23 inch wall-mounted monitor across the room (18 feet distance). To my amazement, however, literally within five minutes of opening the box and plugging the cables together, it was working perfectly! Absolutely a wonderful experience! Before ordering this I also compared other dongles promising miracast android connectivity, but the thing that ultimately convinced me to settle on the Actiontec ScreenBeam Mini 2, is the apparent stability of the company itself. They have a full-blown website, and obvious customer service and technical support options after the sale. Nothing in Chinese either! So, I'm very happy I paid extra to get this adapter. It has already saved me a whole bunch of grief (absolutely NO PROBLEM CONNECTING, and will be a good long-term investment because the company is US-based apparently and I suspect will be happy to stand behind the product, based on other customer reviews. Also Actiontec has LEGIBLE (BIG PRINT) PRINTED INSTRUCTIONS (vs the little, microscopic-print printed "PigeonEnglish" instructions that come with other cheap-0 electronics I;ve bought in the past. WELL DONE ACTIONTEC! You've got a customer for life! Very happy I got this!
I've owned the first version of actiontec's WiDi receiver and loved it. This one is just as good, it is seamless, almost real time with excellent latency, and reasonably priced. I am only giving it 4 stars because I bought a "used... like new" Amazon fulfilled purchase, it was only $4 less than "new." When it arrived it was used but like new, but the HDMI extension and the USB wall plug were both missing. I called Amazon and they issued me a refund of $12, enough to purchase both so ended up with what I needed, just lost some time getting the missing items.
Despite an understanding I had from some reviewers, this device does not work with Google Pixel 2 XL. Also wanted the feature where it did not need to use WIFI. This is called WIDI. Understood this was an option but I could not find this feature in the unit I received. Description in setup software made it very clear it did not work with Pixel 2. Still looking for way to cast from my Pixel 2 to any TV without needing WIFI.
Highly recommend. Super product. Truly plug and play. Easy to setup and use, and no glitches in the last month, and I have used it lots when casting to my TVs with HDMI, from my older Samsung phone and new Samsung Tablet or older laptops that have WIDI. It will be great for using while travelling while abroad.
I have an older Miracast that I bought 5 years ago and thought that was OK but this is light years better and more reliable. 2 weeks before I bought this, I bought a Chromecast on my travels. I found out the hard way that a Chromecast works well as long as you have a private/home network, but is really useless for the traveller who only has access to a hotel network. I then tried a MHL wired adapter, and it works well, but sucks the life out of my phone.
The Miracst works even better than my Kodi box to receive a cast screen.
Excellent picture quality, like being directly connected. Low lag, even acceptable for casual gaming. Transmits at about 25 frames per second at 1920x1080. Boots quickly. I get the impression that this is more of a hardware-based unit, as opposed to the other $25 Miracast dongles which seem to be Android-based internally. Problems are that this unit heats up more than you'd expect for something so small, and that it seems to be fatally sensitive to a bad HDMI input or a poor USB power port. My first unit was destroyed by either a faulty HDMI to Composite adapter or a poor quality USB power port. I feel that it should be more robust than to be damaged so easily. My first unit came with a USB power plug and a 10" HDMI extension, but my second one did not. The retail box is nicely designed and presentable. Used with Samsung Galaxy S7 with Samsung's built-in Miracast connectivity (SmartThings).
Excellent Miracast dongle! It simply works as soon as you plug it in and enable mirroring on your device. Latency is not bad but it's not suitable for real-time precision gaming. This is not a failing of the Screenbeam but rather the Miracast protocol. Picture and video quality look great. The antenna is built into the unit so you don't need to carry around a proprietary cable while you're on the go, any ubiquitous micro USB cable will work.
Forget Chromecast, get one of these babies and do true screen mirroring. Just make sure your device supports Miracast before purchasing this.
