I did a bit of research before purchasing this because I wanted to make sure my boys would have a good way to be outside without me having to worry. In short, I believe this gives you the most bang for your buck of 'easy to assemble' modest sized cat structures... I can't believe the cost of some of the things I have seen! I went with this rather than the tent that is low to the ground because, like many cats, my boys love to be up high. I live in Brooklyn and have a mostly fenced in backyard. I used to let them roam, but once Beau got into the neighbor's yard that was the end of that. Too many stray cats around for me to feel comfortable letting them roam the neighborhood. This playpen does a pretty good job with short outside hang outs for two full grown male cats. One of them is 17 lbs and and the other is about 12 lbs. They can both be in the playpen on the shelves and the playpen stays firm on the ground with no threats of tipping over (see photo of Jasper and Beau). This is a good start for my boys, but I have plans to build my own collapsible structure that is much larger so I can hang out in it with them and work (I don't like the price or design of most of what I have seen online of larger structures). My boys aren't in love with the idea of being in this size space where I have to pet them through the metal bars, but it is better than them being frustrated because I won't let them outside. I would say that this would be a nice choice for people with kittens or cats who need a place to hang because they have potty issues or want to be outside but can't roam free, or any other reason they might need a contained area to be in. The fact that its on casters makes it pretty mobile. I will say that though it is collapsible, it is a bit heavier than I was expecting. This is understandable considering the job it is intended to do, but in some ways a lighter tent would be nice for storage purposes. For now I have been leaving it up outside with plastic over it, but it has still fallen victim to weathering and a little bit of rusting. This could be avoided by collapsing it and bringing it in, but due to the weight I know I would not bring my boys out as much if I have to haul it outside each time.
I don't know why people said that it is difficult to put together and put the casters on. I found it very simple. It doesn't take 5 minutes, but it also doesn't take the entire afternoon. I did it by myself, which was easy enough, another person would be helpful, but not essential (depending on one's physical abilities). Once it's up, it stays up just fine. I did reuse the zip ties that came in the packaging (yes, zip ties are reusable if you are careful about unzipping them) to secure the shelves because my boys are a bit heavy and I didn't quite trust the design of the shelf hooks that attach to the cage. I also check and make sure all other parts are secure before putting my boys in the cage each time. I move it around with them in it and it doesn't threaten to collapse (which was a concern in some other reviews). The four doors on one side are pretty handy for putting them in, taking them out, and offering a fuller petting session on occasion.
