It's not very user friendly in the beginning if this is your first midi controller. Mine set up just fine but I was not able to record to the piano roll. If you have this issue press right click on your record button on the FL screen and select "note". Sounds simple but its a hidden menu that can be overlooked so easily if you've never used a midi keyboard before. I'm still figuring a bunch of stuff out on my own as there's very little useful information on note mode for the controller. It's fun and has potential but is frustrating at times. Also I heard you can't record certain things if you only use the fruity edition. I use signature so I didn't have that problem. One more thing, keep an eye on which one you buy. Some include fruity edition and others don't. If you buy the one without fruity edition and you don't own any version of FL studio this controller will be useless.
Decent controller for fruity loops, but that is all it is. I still feel like it's easier and faster to use fl software without this unit. If you are into actually touching knobs, button and pads you will probably enjoy it. This unit doesnt provide anything that cant be done using the mouse and a regular keyboard along with the software. Personally, I feel like it creates a middle man between the user and software. If it came loaded with new sound banks, vsts, or other effects (like the NI maschine) i would give it a higher rating. Also, the usb cable, which is provided, is extremely short, about 3' maybe a little longer. Had to use a longer cable to reach my tower, lucky I had one.
First off this is a great device when you need something portable and want to control flstudio for very basic functions. What you see is pretty much what you get, just wished Image-line would have spend a bit more thought into the device. The buttons light ip nicely but a bit small for my taste to really use it for finger drumming. The are also quite heave to press. Thats said, the touch sensitive response was fine. Selecting tracks and instruments works, but not as intuitive as expected. Also I really mis a few knobs. I want to be able to control the VST's like flex this is done on most Midi Controllers, this one being designed just for flstudio doesn't do this very well. The note mode is nice but the lighting isn't very pleasant to see the difference between notes. I do like the Drum section and working with FPC. It works well on transport controls and recording. And this was the reason I kept it, but more knobs and a slightly bigger buttons with VST controls I would give this 5 stars.
I use fl for more than 10 years. The machine it self works fine but the software is done is good for nothing If you want to buy it because you are touch person more than software person it works great Congrats to akai good machine Keep in mind you have to spend $200 more for the software
I use FL Studio 10. It does not work for FL Studio 10. It works as a controller but the midi mapping is almost random. The transport, knobs, and virtually every other button only works for the selected channel, no velocity or transport controls (for example if you press the shift or browser key, or the knobs it will only play a different note for the selected instrument nothing more). You can not use the sequencing function, transport controls, the drum function, and definitely not the performance function. I'm not upset, just a little disappointed that it was advertised as dedicated FL Studio controller and not dedicated FL Studio 20 controller. I also could not register the product for some reason, but I don't believe that's connected to It's functioning.
When registering this product on the web, turns out, the serial number doesn’t exist, there for I cannot register this product and I can’t get the features that come with them product, also, since i cannot register this product I can’t claim the warranty on it in case anything happens to it, not cool!!!
