Better than expected as this was an early gena showalter book but still really liked it

Very enjoyable

I really enjoyed this book. I understand that it is quite a different genre to what Gena Showalter usually writes but it is really good. Very light-hearted; just pick it up and away you go. If you like this type of book - rom-com then I thoroughly recommend buying it

Not your typical romance

This book was not what i'd call an enjoyable read. The hero was unfailingly handsome and adept physically, emotionally and intellectually. The heroine was described as thin and small chested; she was an emotional basket case (I became totally fed up with her ) clumsy (e.g. frequently tripping, her walking was called "lumbering") and anxiety caused her to faint or vomit . Not a pretty picture.
Emotional interaction between the h and h changed on a dime and without much of a logical reason. They both seemed to change from cold frigidity to warmth in the blink of an eye. Supporting characters were for the most part emotionally stunted and hard to like.
The plot was contrived to an uncomfortable degree. For instance at the end of the book, the heroine runs away the day before her wedding, takes a plane trip in a panic, then sits in the airport lobby and while watching people come and go in the airport, we are asked to believe that she suddenly has an epipheny and does a total about face and decides that she's been a coward and wants to marry her guy after all. She arrives at the church for her wedding hours late and everybody is still there in place, including the groom who has remained waiting at the front of the church, apparently confident that miss loop-de-loo will show up.
What Ms Showalter does have, however is good comedic writing skills, which is why i gave the book three stars....at times i laughed out loud. But unfortunately that wasn't enough to rescue this effort.

Beaucoup d'humour
Reviewed in France on 21 August 2010Verified Purchase
