Here is how easy it is to change the combination.
1) Set the lock to the current combination that unlocks it but do not unlock it. The default combination is 000.
2) Underneath the last digit, there is a small silver lever. Move that to the right. You can use a toothpick. It needs very little force to move
3) Set the combination to the new combination that you want.
4) Move the lever back to the left. The lock will now open with the new combination.
The problem I have with these became apparent when I took a trip to Europe and used them to lock my suitcases. On the way there everything was good and had no problem but on my way back, TSA personnel opened one of my bags using their key. When I got back home I found that one of the locks would still open at any combination I set the dials. At that point I noticed that the TSA keyhole was not sitting parallel to the lock's body as it normally does. I was able to fix the lock using a screw driver and bringing the keyhole back to the lock position but the fact remains that my suitcase had traveled unlocked after TSA use their key and I cannot trust these locks any longer for airport travel.
Although these locks work perfectly for many of my needs and would be a 5 star item, I gave them 3 stars because I can no longer use them for travel/
The locks themselves are very durable and feel sturdy. I asked at the flight ticket counter in the United States about putting one of these locks on my luggage. She stated that since they were TSA approved they would be ok, and if someone needed to get inside they have a special key. I told her I thought that was just a gimmick and she assured me it was a real thing.
I would highly recommend these locks!
Some people on here are disappointed by the ability to "feel" the combination, but I have to say I couldn't really do it. I tried when I first got them for a little while, but was unsuccessful. Either way, I think those people have some unrealistic expectations for these locks. I put these on my suitcases not to make a mobile fortress for my stuff, but rather to act as a deterrent to anyone trying to steal something. The fact is if a thief is looking at a bag without locks or a bag with locks, they won't waste their time with the locks. It's too risky and is too much time.
These certainly made me feel safe also walking around various cities because I would lock up the parts of my backpack that carried the important stuff, so I knew someone wouldn't be able to unzip and get in. These pack was also great because it came with so many, I was very flexible with how many zippered areas I could lock up at any given time!
Used on a backpack while traveling to prevent pickpockets. No one even bothered trying to touch the bag.
