About the Author
Hayao Miyazaki is one of Japan’s most beloved animation directors. In 2005 he was awarded the Venice International Film Festival’s Golden Lion Award for Lifetime Achievement, and his Studio Ghibli received the festival’s Osella Award for overall achievement in 2004. Miyazaki’s films include Spirited Away, winner of the 2002 Academy Award® for Best Animated Feature Film, as well as Castle in the Sky, My Neighbor Totoro, Kiki's Delivery Service, Princess Mononoke, Howl's Moving Castle, and Ponyo, all of which have received great acclaim in the U.S. Miyazaki’s other achievements include the highly regarded manga series Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind and Starting Point: 1979-1996, a collection of essays, interviews, and memoirs that chronicle his early career and the development of his theories of animation. beaut.

The book wasnt wrapped in anything so damage was inevitable BUT amazingly it was only a few dents in the back of the book. And since there's nothing on the back no harm there.
The content is a lot more informative than i expected which is good. Not only do you get pretty pictures but also descriptions in how the animation was created. Its technically informative and strikes an interests to those who want to understand further about the studio and the art work.

Brief but beautiful

Quite a large book with illustrations from the film. It is very brief and possibly more useful for younger fans. I think this brief/basic aspect of the book works against it as I expected a bit more.
However the quality is undeniable and it's a nice addition to any collection.

Must buy for Ghibli fans.

A stunning book. If you love the film as much as I do I would highly recommend this book. It show the whole creation process of the film showing a lot of the rough water colours to more refined character design sketches, concept art work and the finished backgrounds and cell animation.
One part I really liked was how much though was put into the designs like the blue print drawing showing the full layout of the house.
If the other Ghibli books are of this quality I would love to add more to my collection, especially Princess Mononoke and Kiki's Delivery Service.

It's beautiful, and results in bountiful brownie points!

I purchased this book for my significant other as part of her birthday present.
She loves it. The detail and information contained within are simply excellent. She is a big Ghibli head, and I am a convert.
The quality of the print is clear, with very good colour throughout.
I would get a hardback if I could, as this thing is truly a show-piece!

Breautifully Excellent

The first showed up with a little damage to the spine. A replacement was sorted very efficiently and arrived prompted with no damage whatsoever ever. It’s exactly what you expect from an art book with bright vivid concept art and the narrative of the book tells the thought processes of the people involved really well.
