Hold/Max/Min/Relative and Manual range features are absolutely great to have, I've been missing them in another multimeter I've had until now
One weird thing is that when it detects continuity (on continuity mode) the beep length has a set minimum so if you there's continuity for a split second it will keep beeping for longer. But at least it gives you certainty that it's there.
Clamp feature is interesting but requires an extra accessory
Leads' touch-points are put on from the factory and shielded and I didn't find a good way to attach clips securely but that's a minor issue
But oh my god the NOISE. The BEEPING SOUND. It's a NIGHTMARE.
Every. Push. Of. A. Button. And. Selection. Wheel. Turn. Makes. It. Beep.
Want to tinker with electronics after your wife goes to bed? Better try outside the house, just watch out for neighbours.
I'll probably disassemble it and try to lower the volume with a resistor or something. There's no option to turn it off.

The AstroAI 6000 replaced an older (very old) multimeter, the old meter wasn't autoranging so when checking the resistance of a fridge defrost heater I was a little confused. This metre is probably more sophisticated then I'll ever need but the price was reasonable and better something a bit over the top then something that turns out to lack function.
Arrived next day well packaged in the normal super efficient Amazon way.
The meter seems pretty robust, the main function switch self explanatory so I'm entirely happy with my purchase. Accuracy I can't comment on as I don't have equipment to test this and in any case I guess it would need some technical knowledge (beyond my skill/knowledge) set. That said I've checked voltage on a few different batteries and it seems OK so I've no reason to doubt its accuracy.
The backlit display is useful as is the magnetic hanging loop.
Only negative it doesn't come with a storage case but that's hardy a deal breaker for my purposed the box will suffice. At a later date I may invest in test cables with crocodile clips rather then just the pointed probes.
Overall very pleased.
I love it, but to be honest probably won't use half the settings on it.
Here is a summary of why I would AVOID this at all costs:
The test leads DO NOT WORK at all. This is mentioned in several places on the internet. You MUST replace them. With decent leads from a fluke or DiLog, the meter does actually work.
However - even with decent leads the readings are inaccurate.
The back-light switches off after 30 seconds and there is no way to over-ride this. This makes is useless as you have to keep going to the meter to switch it on.
The 'adapter' for testing transistors etc is cheap and nasty. The sockets are so tight you cannot actually get a component in. Useless.
The build quality feels very cheap and I would be surprised if this lasted any length of time. The kickstand is hard to open and paper thin. The unit is very bulky for what it is. On the plus side - the red is a nice colour!
To summarise - this seems like a fantastic value item on paper - but it is in reality very cheap and very nasty. I have nothing against low cost good value items, and have several cheap meters that do a great job. This product has been hyped on the internet (are the 'best value multimeter's' pages you find where this is listed as number 1 actually independent and unbiased?) I found it to be completely unusable and returned it as not fit for purpose.
My recommendation is to ignore the 5 star reviews (I am not sure what they are comparing this to but I have an old £10 meter from about 20 years ago that is 3 times as good as the AstroAI and has decent leads)
If you want a budget meter look elsewhere. There are several other budget meters that offer accurate measurements and come with leads that work.
If you want the best, get a fluke.
If you want a really decent meter at a fantastic price - check out the DiLog products. They are a UK company (formerly based in Wales, but I think have moved the head office to Manchester) with products equivalent in quality to Flukes but around half the price. Their customer service I have found to be very responsive and helpful too. Give them a try and support a UK business!
I purchased this as my old multi-meter (A Fluke 87) got full of water (at work) whilst I was on holiday and as I'm leaving my current career soon didn't want to spend the godless price of a new fluke. This meter is a twentieth of the price, and true the build quality isn't as good as the Fluke, but it seems to do everything else just as good.
Don't think about it get one!!!
As a hobbyist in electronics this meter does all the functions I need it to do including capacitance testing, transistor hfe measurement and frequency analysis, albeit at a basic level. The Duty Cycle function is especially helpful when playing with PWM controllers.
The Class 3 category ensures that it is safe to measure mains voltages using the _CORRECT_ leads which are provided without the worry of transients leaking through to the user.
The auto-range function can be easily switched to lock on to a user-selected range but can just as easily be returned to auto at the press of a button.
Included is a temperature sensor and a very useful multi-function adaptor which is used for transistor hfe (gain) and capacitance measurement functions. Please note that the capacitance test will only test for the correct capacitance and not ESR which is a different thing entirely. However it is still very useful for measuring out-of-tolerance capacitors in critical circuits.
Accuracy is surprisingly good despite the low price of the meter and it will easily stay within the 1% range for metal film resistors. The millivolt range is within spec and microamps are tolerably accurate.
Overall I would recommend this as a good basic meter at an affordable price and it even comes with a battery so all good there.
Does everything you need it to and comes with all the necessary attachments. the box it comes in is super small too so its handy to pack it in that and keep all the bits in one place.
The customer service where super helpful in answering all my questions too!
Had got so used to a real cheapo one that coming from that and going to this feals like luxury as this is so quick at updating the reading, rather than waiting half to a full second, large digits, has a bleeper for testing shorts and this can also test capacitors.
The lighting display is a very handy feature too.
I don't use the included leads as i had already brought a lead set with different swapperable probes.
So if you ever need to replace the leads, you can very easily.
Also, i opened the unit just enough to put a little bit of tape on the bleeper as this is super loud to quieten it a little.
Really highly recommend this multimeter.
Nice clear display and easy to use.
Gives plenty options and adapters for testing different voltages etc but I haven't tried any of them!
! ! UPDATE ! I have bought another of these multimeters and OH BOY ! What a difference it has come with a basic set of test leads , a battery , a transistor adaptor , a thermo couple for temperature sensing and how to use the multimeter folder - ALL the things that were missing from my first one ! ! I have already learned how to keep the display on and how to have the sounder working for circuit testing !
Have now had chance to test both multimeters against my calibrated Avometer and they are surprisingly accurate and much less bulky to carry around .
All in all 2 great buys .
Shame I got " The Friday Afternoon " one to start with so it badly coloured my judgement .
On a personal note I have I would NOT EVER again purchase one! Here's why.
The screen is big but try to use it in anything but perfect light conditions and you can't read the didgits. Also just as annoyingly - unless you have the screen perfectly facing towards you again you will only see blurry numbers or a reflection of the room - and yes I do have good vision (although everything else though is barely useable!!). You can avoid this by simply pressing the screen illumination button for a couple of second and have the whole screen light up in a cold blue and be seen perfectly from anywhere you place it. But no matter what you do, read the manual a million times, the light will not stay on but for a few seconds - never long enough - half way through taking whatever readings you were the screed goes dark and the light has to be turned back on which like I said involves depressing and holding a small button - which cannot be done when balanced on a shelf, in a hole, hanging from a nail or anywhere else you would have the multimeter in the real world.
The second operationl joy of this machine is the painful, loud and extremely annoying squawk it will admit after a few minutes, its the warning sound to tell you you have left your unit on. Normally this would not be a problem, tap your ends together , take a reading, press a button would, on any other unit, reset this toe curling squawking - NO not this unit it will continiue ever few seconds untill you take the unit and turn the operations wheel, the main wheel, to the off position. Which will lose your setting etc.
For exmple to use the continuety beep, you have to turn the selector wheel to the section that includes this, but its not the option that will be the one it automatically goes to, you have to press a seperate key untill you reach that setting. Then when you are twisted into some wierd position so you can check some elctronics behind a wall it will also start sqwarking to remmind you to turn it off. You have to crawl out of your hole to turn the machine off and on because you only want positive continuity sounds not be second guessing yourself because of some needless alarm - after doing this twice i go back to the ten quid unit that does not do it.
