I used this for years, and I loved this grooming clay. I have quit using it because all the chemicals, synthetic garbage and aluminum that's contained in it. Won't do me much good to have nice looking hair if I've got Alzheimers now will it. I sought out natural grooming clay and I quit using this synthetic garbage. I'm really let down with Aveda, they market themselves as "natural botanicals" yeah sure, you need a degree in organic chemistry to even pronounce the names of all the synthetic chemicals in this junk. With that said, I did enjoy using it till I woke up after having a hair analysis done and my aluminum, level was through the roof. So I deposited it in the garbage can.
This was not the product advertised. As you can see in the picture, it's a totally different jar, with a different description, and is not similar at all. It was clearly also very old and the product inside was dried out and hard. So not only was the item wrong, what we did get was totally unusable. I've contacted the seller and hopefully they will make it right.
Super matte product that gives a light and natural “no product in your hair” look and feel. It’s super easy to scoop, apply and style and smells amazing like all other Aveda products, which is the only real reason I really continue to use it. The glaring problem with this product and my hair type is the hold and control. This product is super weak in these two categories and is absolutely NOT a strong hold as advertised. However, I found a solution... I simply cocktail in an unscented strong hold hair clay (Everyman Jack Hair Clay) with this product to dial up the hold and control and the problem is solved.
I have short, wavy, wiry hair with natural texture and body, but is prone to fly aways. If you have the same hair type I cannot recommend this product without a firmer hold product to mix in with it. The smell is amazing though ;)
Very flexible but a great hold. You can even restyle your hair after 10 hours of wear without applying more product. Smells great too. This product won’t give you a wet hair look. Apply it before you dry your hair for a softer hold and better styling versatility. Apply it to dry hair for a firm hold with a naturally messy look.
There is more product in the container than other products of the same class. Even better, a little goes a long way. My salon was always sold out of this so I am glad to have Amazon as an option.
This stuff works great. If you've ever wondered how dudes are able to style their hair and it look like it's the natural way their hair looks, this is how. I can put it in when my hair is wet or dry (better if a little damp) and when my hair is dry it will allow me to scuplt just about any way I want. When girls touch it they say "oh wow, I can't believe it's so soft. it feels like you're not using any product at all!". The only downside is that it reeks of tea tree which took me some time to get used to. Aveda didn't have to do that but they obviously wanted everyone to know that you're using their products. I don't have to use cologne when I use this stuff, it's that strong of a minty smell.
The only thing that works for my hair. I have fine straight blonde hair that's thick but thinning a little in the front. I wear it between 2-3 inches long and this gives it texture volume and shape with a very natural matte finish. A little goes a long way
It smells excellent and never leaves a residue on your hair. It's a strong hold that leaves your hair soft to the touch. I used to use the Jack Black clay... but this is a better product and I haven't looked back since making the switch. One tub lasts two months if you have short hair.
I have short, medium thickness hair. Used on dry hair this product has a lot of tug and doesn't provide much control nor hold. Definitely matte finish but leaves hair a little dull and lifeless looking. I don't get the results found on the Aveda product video. Does soften after drying and I like the masculine Aveda scent but not worth the money, imo.
