Okay I’m calling it on Laura in this series after this many stories her whole attitude, demeanor and down right meanness has gotten old and it’s really distracting from what could be an awesome series... normally I could try and ignore the mean girl, but this woman is just beyond toxic and it’s making the whole books uncomfortable to read apart from that I love the series the other characters are great the storylines are interesting and entertaining except when it involves Laura, so while I enjoyed the case of the story and the mystery it was drowned out with Laura’s toxicity and in this story it just stood out more than others.
I love this series. Charlie and Jack are one of my favourite couples and series from this author. In this book, things are really starting to come out about Charlie's family and the reason why they gave her up all those years ago. Throw in a trip to Salem and you get a really great read.
What the heck is with the mommy and daddy issues?!? Not all biological "parents" are good people! Charlie had fantastic parents, ok so she was adopted, big deal, she was very fortunate and was loved which is the best any child could want. This trend to the fantastic mommy bit amongst authors is disturbing, giving birth or fathering offspring does not magically make you a good person and definitely not make you an even decent parent. Curiosity about the source of talents is understandable though not always relevant. Charlie and company have fantastic adventures that are interesting and entertaining. The boo boo who are my "real parents" and what's wrong with me that they got rid of me is just gaack! Gag! Its usually about the parents, not the child. If, the question has to be asked, it should be.... What was wrong with them! Other than that its a really good book. Recommend series
Charlie and Jack are looking for answers to her past, and of course they find mystery and adventure while they look. This book has everything I expect - adventure, mystery, family, friends, and romance. Charlie’s chosen family and friends are there to help her as she learns more about the family she’s never known and always had questions about. And along the way, she’s growing her abilities and strengthening her relationship with Jack. Charlie is finally getting some answers on her past and what she can do too - can’t wait to see what’s next!

I hated teh first Charlie Rhodes mystery and only read follow ups because I love Ms Lee's writing and trusted her. Thank god I did because as the mythology and mystery surrounding Charlie has grown, the books just get better and better. I still think Laura is an unnecessary drain on the narrative but everyone else shines. It's nice that Jack is the most supportive love interest in the Leeverse, stepping back and supporting Charlie whenever she has to step up. No passive aggression or getting angry with her for doing the right thing!
I love Charlie and Jack! They are such a fun couple. It was nice to start getting more info on Charlie’s past. Amanda M. Lee has this awesome ability to tell a story over the length of a series while still managing to keep you engaged with the mystery in each book. Can’t wait for the next book!
