I use Blue Mountain beans medium ground and get a mug of strong, fragrant black coffee to rival anything from a good cafe (except no crema - get a Brikka for that!) Worth paying a little extra for a well proven design from a maker with an impeccable history.
An ideal size if you are the only coffee drinker in your house, you'll definitely need a larger one if there more coffee drinkers at home.

Firstly, Bialetti is definitely one of the best moka pots out there, in terms of quality and materials. Yes, you can get cheaper ones, but sometimes it’s worth paying more. It’s also worth noting that you cannot make a true espresso in a moka pot as this requires very high pressures. So you won’t get the crema sitting on top. But your average person won’t know or tell the difference, and you can always enjoy serving it to a coffee snob and seeing how they react. I just enjoy the coffee without getting caught up in the pretentious rubbish that is often spouted.
The Bialetti cup size is ESPRESSO sized cups, not mug size. So this 4 cup size takes about 200 ml of water in the base, which after brewing, gives about 150 ml of strong dark coffee. The rest is lost in the coffee grounds, through evaporation, with a bit remaining in the base; that is part of the process and is normal. The 150ml is about 3-4 ‘shots’, which can be served as espresso size, or watered down with hot water for large Americanos, or add milk for latte, or steamed milk for cappuccinos. That’s exactly what the coffee shops do; take 1 or 2 shots and make the drink to suit. So it will make espresso size for 4 people, or Cappuccino/Latte size for 2 people.
There is a technique to using it, and it takes several goes to get it right. But once you do, it’s as simple as it gets. Fill up the base with cold tap water. Fill up the funnel with ground coffee (popular choices seem to be Illy or Lavazza). It takes about 18g but you don’t need to measure. Screw the top on. Put it over a gentle heat, after a minute or two the coffee slowly streams out, and remove it from the heat when it starts spluttering. Less than 10 minutes from deciding to have a coffee, so sitting down and enjoying it.
Some have difficulty knowing how high to have the heat, but it’s easy to work out. Simply fill the base, put it on the heat, and see what gas/electric mark you need to make it gently boil. Mine is the medium gas mark on the smallest ring. So I use this when it’s assembled and it works every time. I don’t need to guess, I know that the specific setting that makes it boil. Easy.
Cleaning it is easy. Once it’s cooled, take it apart, dispose of the grounds (very good on the compost) and wash everything in hot clean water, ensuring it’s dry before storing it.
Highly recommended – 5 stars.
It does stain a bit inside the bottom pot (where you put water), but that's nothing wrong. Try not to leave the machine closed for too long (more than one/two days) to avoid mould and stains.
Do not use strong flame or the handle will melt and the rubber inside will get damaged.
Turn the flame off as soon as you hear the typical gargling noise (if you wait too long the coffe will burn, the machine as well, the pressure valve will brake).
There are different coffee grounds available on the market, just check the one you want is suitable for coffee machines.
It sounds more complicated than it is. I have been using Bialetti espresso maker machine since ever (very italian roots) and I wouldn't go for any other one( not even other Bialetti styles). I hope this helps. Ciao!
In my family we've been using this product since forever, like every family in Italy.
So, if you really want to experience and taste true italian coffee, the way italian people make it at home... this moka is the best way to do it.
I recenlty moved to London from Italy so I had to buy one for my new home because my mom forbade me from bringing the one we use at home in italy (which is exactly the same as this one)! She's been using it for decades and I think she has feelings for it ashah.
About the product itself: it's super easy to use it, cleans very well and can make 2 perfect espressos!!!
Also, I suggest you use it with Lavazza coffee if you're really in for an italian experience!
the coffee made by this coffee machine is absolutely amazing!
very good value for money, the quality is the best in the market, bialetti is really famous brand!
it makes 2 nice espresso cups (but if you like it ristretto maybe 3!)
a little tip for the first use: make sure you boil just some water the first time: it helps to clean everything... after that I'd suggest you do a run with coffee and then you throw it away..... the second one will be a nice good coffee...

I get my daily 2 shot of coffee, sometimes more when the craving hits me. I wanted to make sure that the product was still functioning before I gave a review.
This is an excellent product.
So sad .i’m still using two different sizes moka Bialetti that I bought 23 years ago and they are fantastic no problem at all and still using them constantly.Another great Italian brand completely destroyed by probably cutting corners from material to manufacture!
What a shame
Spedizione e consegna perfette come sempre da parte di amazon.
Easy to use - I let it brew while I have breakfast and then pop it in a flask with hot water to bring to work.
I bring the whole amount and it saves me visiting the coffee shop at lunch and spending an extra £3/day.
A bit fiddly to clean the top if you don't do it straight after pouring so I rinse this straight away then leave to grounds to dry in the bottom until the next morning. Much easier to just tip them out once they've dried up.
