We tried a lot of mats to go under our treadmill and found most of them to be too thin or they compress so much there is no floor protection. We also found that thicker, rubber mats smell way too toxic. This mat is the perfect thickness and doesn't compress much under our treadmill which protects the floor. The only issue is it's almost greasy. So we were afraid the treadmill would move around when we were using it. We tried a lot of cleaning products trying to get rid of the greasy feeling and also contacted customer service who was no help at all. We never got rid of the slippery, greasy feeling, but we had an old mat that compressed too much to be used alone, so we've doubled up, with this greasy mat on the bottom to protect the floor, and another mat on top so our treadmill won't slide around.
So, I thought I should get the high density harder surface to be more durable to put my new Schwinn IC4 indoor cycle. Turns out the mat is too slippery and the bike was slipping a little when I was pedaling out of the saddle. The feet on the IC4 would make a knocking noise as the slippage was happening, causing me to first think that I had a serious problem with the pedals or crank arms on the bike. But I realized it was the slippage and I put a yoga mat on top of this mat as a softer cushion under the bike and the noise disappeared. I think this is not a good mat for my indoor bike, but the pics with the product clear show that use. The cost of this mat is too high to not be able to work on its own, so not really a good product for me.
So, I do have this mat, on a low pile Berber rug. While it has some good weight to it, I don't think it will stand up to the pressure spots from my exercise bike and treadmill. After one day, it has some pretty deep impressions on the mat. I will probably return this.
I did find some 3x4 thick rubber mats for a 1/4 of the price that are much thicker and tougher. So that works out to less than 2/3 the cost, for a thicker and larger item of 3x8 vs. 3x7.
