Me encanto!
This is made of bits of cutup foam, and it is lumpy. My notoriously picky toy poodle wouldn’t even sit on it long enough to get used to it, much less lay on it. It failed the ultimate test, my cat, who lays on EVERYthing, even uncomfortable and weirdly shaped things. It sat in our office unused forever before my son had hip surgery and was in a wheelchair for a while. We finally used this as a cushion for him and he never complained about it so we kept using it until he didn’t need the wheelchair anymore. That’s the reason it gets 2 stars, otherwise I wouldn’t even want to give it 1 star, mostly because when I bought it, it didn’t say it had cut up pieces of foam in it. Maybe they’ve updated to include this vital piece of information, but if not now you know before spending the money on it. It is an attractive looking little piece of lumpy bed, I’ll give it that. Have never washed the cover yet so can’t comment on that. Probably should do that, haha. If it falls apart I’ll update review.
This is actually one of the few reviews I've written for a product on Amazon but I had to get on and do it because this bed is amazing. My 8 year old, 15 pound male cat, Toby, has been with me since he was a kitten and has been accustomed to *always* sleeping in the bed with me (and now also my husband). This cat is a clinger and makes a huge amount of noise if he's not allowed to get in the bed. He has flat-out refused to use any cat bed I've bought him for his entire life but I've developed adult asthma and am now struggling with allergies. His big spring shed is unfortunately making it worse and I've been told by my doctor that he has to be transitioned out of sleeping in the bed with us (especially at night, but also during the day when he likes to nap on the mattress). This is traumatic for all of us. I love having him there at night, he's always always slept with me, but unfortunately it's now important for my health that he sleeps in his own special place(s).
Enter a lengthy search to find the *perfect* bed for him and a large amount of worry that he would refuse to use it. I finally ordered this one in the 17 X 11 size to place on top of his cat condo, which he occasionally sits on during the day, in hopes that he would find it comfortable and decide he liked it better than the bed. He hates being on the ground and he loves looking at the birds out the window, so this was a hopeful compromise.
We got the bed three days ago. It fit imperfectly on his cat condo, as it's a square and this mat is a rectangle. There were bits that had no cushioning but I put THREE of his favorite fuzzy blankets on it in hopes that maybe he wouldn't notice the gaps. He refused to jump up on it for the first few hours as it would have required a higher jump than he's used to and he's nothing if not fussy. We tried gently placing him on it and enticing him with treats...still nothing. He fussed at us and jumped off to head to the bedroom. I was close to giving up hope. But then magic happened -- he decided, sometime in the late evening when we were out, to jump up on it and (in an incredible twist) didn't move for the rest of the day. He didn't even come in the bedroom at night and fuss to be let up on the bed! It's been three days and he's still basically glued to it, only getting off for an occasional stroll or to eat or potty. Otherwise, he's been happily either napping or looking out the window. He seems to have made do with the fact that it doesn't quite fit the space by either laying along it or putting his top half on it and letting his bum and back legs sit against the entertainment center right next to his perch. I wish I'd gotten him a bigger one, even if it had hung off, so he could spread out more but at least I know he'll use it now and can get him a larger size later.
I'm truly impressed. I had doubts about whether this would transition him out of the bed and honestly he's stubbornly ignored every single bed I've ever offered him. He's also needy, older, and particular about where he sleeps so the fact that he likes this bed is honestly miraculous. Truly magical! Here's a photo of him contentedly napping, you can see the bed under his blankets.
The bed itself fluffed up nicely. My dog likes it.... but it's very small. I didn't pay attention the the size.. my dog can only use this like a pillow in his crate, and for 25$, I'm not ordering a bigger more expensive one. Wish I would have measured out the size. I don't think even a cat would fit on this! If it was big enough, it'd probably be so wonderful. He seems to enjoy it enough as a pillow though.
Only had this pad for about 2 months and all of the stuffing is falling out of it. My dog is small and could not have chewed through to the stuffing. Therefore it was made poorly. Not worth the money at all.
