The book fails to examine the piece in any significant manner. It could use another twenty or thirty musical examples and another fifty pages or so of analysis. It is also a remarkably boring book.
Although the book is rather expensive, it’s also very small. There’s little here for anyone serious about studying the War Requiem.

Masterwork for a masterpieceReviewed in the United States on 7 September 2013
The essential book to have for a thorough understanding of the genesis of this choral masterpiece!!! The book also has a first-rate analytical discussion of the music as well as an interesting discussion of Britten's inspired use of Wilfred Owens' poetry.
