My laptop doesn't have an HDMI out, but has a DisplayPort and to connect it to the projector I bought this adaptor. I'm happy to report that both video and audio get transferred from the DisplayPort, through this adapter, and into the AV Receiver. I believe the DisplayPort on the computer has to support audio to make this possible, so older ports might not include audio. My laptop is designated with a DP++ sign next to the DisplayPort, so if you have the same, you should be safe, but check the manual first.
The only thing I don't like about this adaptor is that it locks itself when inserted into the DisplayPort, and to extract it back, you have to press the button on the connector to release 2 small metal tabs on the sides. If you connect it once and keep it that way, that might be fine, but if you constantly connect and disconnect, it's a bit annoying. But overall, this adaptor is a good value.
It only shows picture but no audio, but I think its the default setting of my hp that it does not have software that enables the audio somehow. I didn't know it before but looking at the picture quality its superb.
Would definitely recommend it to anyone, but please check that your laptop support audio as well.
I wanted a DP-to-HDMI adapter to use my Dell laptop with TVs, especially in hotels as I travel quite a lot. This one had good reviews and a decent price for what it is - I guess there are not a lot of these adapters sold, so the prices tend to be quite high compared to, say, the HDMI cable that is going to be plugged into it. Anyway, the adapter seems to be well constructed: it latches into the Display Port as it is meant to and doesn't feel like it is going to fall apart any time soon. It works perfectly: every TV I have connected to has been properly detected by the laptop and I was able to get audio and video output to the TV without any problems.
