I bought this toy as previous reviews gave me hope. I'm not saying that they leapt up and started dancing around (god forbid) but there was a bit of paw waving action. I'm holding out hope that when the days are longer and they are less umbilically connected to the heating, they might actually use up a few calories on this - every little helps when your stomach is nearing the floor.
I do like this toy and I'm pretty certain that if your cat isn't completely bone idle they will enjoy playing with it. It's simple and robust. It's worth the small price to at least try it out, I would add that my cats are 13 and 11 which may have something to do with it - I'm sure a kitten or young cat would love it.
The wire nature of the Dancer means it moves very fast (much faster than, say, dangled string). But my cat is also entranced when it moves slowly. It's impossible to say why exactly it appeals so much to my cat, but it does.
Occasionally, I've tried bringing out the old fishing rod toy with feathers. Cat was never that interested before but now it's just 'meh'.
My cat also enjoys chewing on the cardboard rolls on the end of the Dancer, when he catches it. This is another good feature of the design, compared to the useless feathers of other cat toys.
My cat likes to chew, so I will probably have to replace the Cat Dancer a few times a year, because although the cardboard rolls are robust, they are not everlasting - but it's so cheap it doesn't matter, and the materials are recyclable. And probably not all cats are so chewy as mine is.
In conclusion, if you have a cat, I recommend you buy this toy now.
It's pretty durable despite being cardboard and takes a long time to really need a replacement. Even when it's chewed up, they still love to play with it. Check out my video to see some of Archie's cool jumps.
