The ergonomic feel of the nail clippers makes clipping a wiggly dog's nails easier (I am a professional dog groomer). The bent angle, allows me to lift the dog's foot backwards and clip the nail horizontal to the pad perfectly, decreasing the chances of my cutting the quick. The design of it works great because the closing/locking tab is inside the handles, not outside. Other clippers, with the locking tab on the outside by the thumb, will accidentally lock when you clip, every time, making nail clipping twice as hard and very frustrating. Clip, reset the shield, unlock it over and over. Actually, the black plastic locking tab fell off very easily, but in my case, it made the clippers better. The safety shield stays in place too. The shield on other clippers won't stay over the opening so that I have to adjust it back over the opening between each nail clip. When the shield stays, I can clip, clip, clip quickly, getting through the groom faster, without getting the quick of the nail.
My cat is relatively small (8 pounds), so I selected these clippers because they seemed to be small enough to make it as easy as possible to use and still have a good grip on both the clippers and the cat! The only drawback to these clippers is that they don't have a safety closure. Otherwise, they'd get 5 stars from me. UPDATE: My vet likes these clippers, and told me that she prefers clippers that do NOT have "guards" or safety closures because they get into her way, slowing down the procedure.
I knew I really liked them right off the bat but didn't realize how much better they were than other brands until I miss placed them. My kittens nails seem to grow so quickly, so I grabbed another one at the store on the way home one day. They don't feel as good on my hand, they aren't as sharp, flimsy. Looks like I'm going to buy another one from Pet Republique!
We have two young kittens and have been trying to clip their nails for 6 months now and it's been a constant battle. I have tried three different types of nail trimmers and they have all failed within a month or two, either dull very quickly or nails cause they to break or out of adjustment and won't trim very well. So I decided to purchase a more precision and professional type. Well, these trimmers work very well. My kittens now almost a year old, don't seem to mind trimming as much with these new trimmers, I trim their nails almost every week to week and half, so I will see how long these stay sharp. Trimms seem to be much better quality and fairly well built over cheap trimmers I have used in the past. They have a good feel and are small enough to maneuver around to get a good trim on smaller paws. Since they are also sharp I don't believe that it hurts the cats like the other cheap ones. I would recoomend this product, not sure how it would work on larger animals, but so far works great for my cats.
update: the lever that locks them closed pinched me several times giving me a blood blister while clipping. The plastic locking tab broke off after a few months of locking shut. The safety metal protector to keep from cutting the nail too short is worthless and keeps slipping into the way of the cut no matter how much you tighten the nut. Took way too much force to try to cut anything. I’ve thrown them out and found much sharper, thicker, quality clippers that take a lot less force to cut and cost less than these did. I’m annoyed I bothered with them for 9 months as they made the process unnecessarily stressful for both parties.
I wanted to replace my super cheap, super old clippers which were so dull they were basically mashing the nail off by force. The issue with these clippers is they don’t open wide enough to get in there to get a good short cut on larger claws, you have to use it sideways to cut anything and that’s precarious and probably not ideal for trimming anyway. The angle of the clippers seems like a good idea though. I wish I kept the packaging but I threw it away before I tried to use them the first time. They might be ok for other sizes but I wouldn’t recommend them for larger, over 100 lb, breeds.
I bought these for my young cat Rocket and thought that I would struggle a little to clip his nails. The last time that they were clipped was during a visit to the vet and they had a hard time with him.. It was so easy to clip them and Rocket barely noticed that he was getting a cut. The quality of the product is great and price was fantastic. Delivery was also very quick!
These nippers are great. I had no idea that I could trim a cats claws, so I read up on how to do it on a couple of cat websites. You have to start them young and work up to it by touching their feet a lot and extending their claws. They get accustomed to it. I’ve cut my 10 week old kitten’s claws twice. The nippers are the perfect size for the job and are very sharp. Quick work!
Just received clippers, opened up and noticed one side looks like someone tried to cut stainless steel with it. The other half of the blade was fine. The machining is unacceptable. This will not make a clean cut. Going back.
We have three chihuahuas and we have found the nail clipper is very hard to use. It has left my dogs nails bleeding because it doesn't cut right. On the grinder number one it doesn't hold a charge. We have own this for while now and we have tried to use it as best we can we have looked at all the literature. We do not care for this product at all best words I can come up with it's cheap.
Okay, I was afraid of trimming the nails of our two new kittens, and afraid I would hurt them, but we also don't like having our furniture torn to shreds, so they convinced us to give this a try (in the same way as our neighbor convinced us that we really did want a fence after all). Worked like a charm. Only took me a few minutes to get the front claws ground down to "tolerable" and "can't climb up the curtains any more" length, from "piercing" and/or "painful when climbing up your leg" length. Virtually no noise, so quick that the nails didn't heat up, and I was able to leave a comfortable length so as not to hurt the cats. No more pointed remarks from them. After the first minute, they put up with it, kind of like they do when we put hats on them for Halloween or Christmas. The USB charger is also fast and easy. Bonus - they donate a small amount to no-kill shelters, no idea how much (could be three cents), but still a nice gesture. I haven't tried any other brands so I can't compare, but I see no reason to look at any other. Update after a couple of months – the kittens grow claws so fast that we can't keep up with them, so we had to buy an actual clipper, even though the grinder still works as expected.
