L’herbe pousse relativement vite.

Grass looks great, kitty can't wait to get and play with the grass. It really looks very nice and fresh. However in my experience with 50% of the seeds they didn't last more than 2 weeks which is probably normal, especially in my case as I tried to cheap out and use only half of the suggested raw material. Unfortunately spare seeds cost about 10GBP and I feel this is a bit too much, but probably there is always a way to get them from an alternative and cheaper place to keep kitty happy. Note that this new version doesn't include seeds anymore.
Funny enough, the old version, which costs £9.99 comes including seeds and vermiculite while the new version, which is exactly the same for as far as I can see, comes without seeds and vermiculite but costs £12.00!
So if you want this, you're better off buying the old version, even if the reviews say the seeds don't grow, it still saves you £2.01!!
I called Amazon and asked them to explain this and I was told they will investigate it and call me back with the results!
The holes are large enough that they can still rip out the blades of grass, soil attached to the roots. So, no mess saving. Catit wants you to buy their expensive growing kit where the medium is perlite instead of soil. That doesn’t help with the mess. Wet perlite sticks to roots too. The difference is the perlite that’s now on the floor probably isn’t as safe for the cat to eat.
Also, you are supposed to leave the green lid off for the first few days after planting the seeds, then put it on when they start sprouting. The theory is the blades will find their way up through the holes in the green lid. Many do. A lot don’t. They wind up stuck underneath and grow sideways, where the cat can’t get it.
I also thought it’d be fun because the planter ‘integrates’ with the other Catit toys. It is sized so it fits in the middle of the toy that is a little track with a ball inside. But you know what? My 10p plastic pot also fits there. Also, in hindsight, I’m not sure the positioning like that is really an added benefit. I’ve never seen my cats playing with the ball track and simultaneously eating the grass.
Oh well. I use it because I have it, but I wouldn’t buy it again.
On to the actual design of the product. While I have not owned the 1.0 version of this planter, I would remark that this planter is very stable and my (5 month old) cat has not yet knocked it over or opened it up. After a week of having grass seed and vermiculite in it, the grass has started to grow. So far he is not that interested in it, but as grass starts to grow through he has definitely stuck his face into the leaf blades and nipped at them a bit. The secondary chamber that collects water to prevent over-watering was very handy when my husband accidentally over-watered it a couple days ago. I just poured out what drained through and gave the planter a little shake to even out the grass seeds again, then put it back. So far so good. Since my cat has recently discovered that he likes digging dirt out of my potted plants, the fact that this planter has a grate on top to prevent digging is extra appreciated! I hope this review helps!
The rubber mat around it does stop it moving and it was easy to set up.
Would have been better if they provided a starter pack of grass seeds and soil with it rather then expecting you to buy separately - something to remember when pricing this up.

I purchased 2 of these ,, first one when grass was growing managed to push the green top up in the air as grass was really thick
Have now planted the other , so I have a change round as my cat loves it
This one has grown brilliantly , grass really nice and thick
I have a Bengal and she chews and pulls hell out of it , the only mess I have is bits of chewed grass round base
For the price a fab purchase
Also have a very happy cat 😊
Skip the pre packaged seed kits the brand sells and just use soil and wheat or oat grass seeds. The seed kit they sell is designed to die after a couple weeks and soil will keep the grass alive for months instead of weeks.
