Having just purchased a 5 string banjo I was after a book that was not childish in presentation yet simple to follow and get me up and running with some good tunes from the start. This book does just the job with tuning advice, easy to follow tabs and interesting background notes on each song. I purchased the kindle addition which is very user friendly and provides downloadable audio files to accompany the songs. Really good value for money.
I started to play the banjo on my 70th Birthday. This was the book that got me started. Too late for me to be an aspiring Bella Fleck, but none the less, I am enjoying my playing and the journey. It's never too late to take the first step.
This book is written in a friendly manner with plenty of humour. I was surprised at how quickly I was able to play a simple tune on the banjo, I like the old photographs and history that is included in the book. The author's passion for the instrument shines through which is inspiring. The cd plays the bare bones of the melody and then again with the "clawhammer lick" .. I would recommend this book to a complete beginner.
