Also I had dry eyes for two years. So bad that in the morning I would need to placeeye drops in my eyes to lubricate and open them. I thought it was due to dehydration and working long hours. And chronic contact use. I noticed in only four nights I no longer need to use saline eye drops. I am now convinced my dry eye was due to my blepharitis.
Sorry for the long review.
I used these nightly for about 40 days straight. I have cut down to once every couple weeks and my eyes are still doing great! Dryness symptoms and white build up have not returned.
I would like to start out by saying this is the first time I have reviewed anything on Amazon, or any website ever, and I will list every product I have tried. This maybe long and I do apologize, but I want to document everything I have tried in order to help others rule something out. I feel the need to, because I want to help others like others have helped me with their reviews. I started having really bad dry eyes beginning September 2017. I started waking up with dry eyes stuck together, then it got to the point where my eyes were drying out very badly throughout the day. I had a really bad panic attack, thinking my eyes were going to be like this for the rest of my life, because I had googled everything and figured I had gland dysfunction or something else that has no cure. I read post after post on "dry eye zone" and other websites where people are searching for help. Blinking was all I was able to focus on and notice, and studying for school became really difficult. I couldn't wear make up and contacts, which made me even more depressed.
The first doctor I went to said he didn't notice any problems with my eyes and sent me home with a sample of Systane eye drops. These didn't help at all. I started Flaxseed and Krill Oil Omega-3 supplements and an eye vitamin, but no noticeable improvements. I went to a second doctor and he diagnosed me with staph blepharitis. He prescribed me two antibiotics, Bacitracin ointment for one month and Moxifloxacin eye drops for 2 weeks. He also recommended Ocusoft lid scrubs. There was a little improvement, but not much. I went to a third doctor, a "dry-eye specialist." He took pictures of my glands and didn't see any issues and basically said the dry eye symptoms I was describing to him didn't match up to what he was seeing, and he didn't see any blepharitis. He prescribed me two weeks of hot compresses. There was a little more improvement, but I still needed drops to get me through the day. I tried Colliodal Silver spray, antibacterial wet wipes, petroleum jelly, castor oil, coconut oil (all things I had read on different websites), none of it worked. I went to my second eye doctor again, desperate for help. He referred me to a 4th doctor. This doctor said he saw a little blepharitis in my eye lashes but didn't know what was causing it. He prescribed me Avenova with Neutrox spray solution twice a day. I started using this on January 10th 2018, but after a few days didn't feel like my eyes were much different, but I used it for a whole 2 weeks, twice a day. I had gotten Cliradex in the mail (which I had put off buying because of the price) and started using them at night before bed, not washing it off and leaving it on my eyes/face over night. Like others have said, they do burn and they did dry out the skin underneath my eye quite a bit, but I started cleansing my face/eyes with alcohol free witch hazel when I wake up to help with the skin irritation. This is my holy grail routine. Cliradex wipe before I go to sleep, alcohol free witch hazel when I wake up (I use thayer's rose petal). I have 7 more Cliradex wipes left, and I have ordered two more boxes because I've read some people saying that they should be used for 6-8 weeks or 60 days, in the case of mites. Not sure if that's what causing my blepharitis/dry eye, but it kind of seems likely to me at this point. I'm hoping I won't have to keep using them for "maintenance" because of the price, but if I do, at least I'll have a solution. I'm truly thankful for finding these. I don't need or use any eye drops whatsoever. My eyes are not dry. And like another reviewer said, I don't think about my eyes or blinking. My heart goes out to those who have had to suffer for years and are still suffering <3
Aside from my eyes drying out, I would get white "flurries" on the tip of my lashes and white build up on the outer corner of my eyes. I have attached a picture, just in case it could help someone.
I wish everyone well <3
The manufacturer recommended course is to use the wipes twice daily for one month. One box contains 24 packets. Instead of purchasing two boxes, I would cut each towelette package and save half for later use (should be more than adequate). As pointed out in the comment section, one box of 24 is not exactly a months worth, but don't get too hung up on that as 3.4 weeks should be fine in most cases.
Be careful not to touch your eye with the wipes, as it will sting a bit. Close your eyes and gently dab/swipe around the lid lash area. Even so, the vapors may be enough to cause tearing at first. This is normal and most will become acclimated after a few uses. Your lids may be mildly red, but this should be temporary. Significant swelling lasting more than an hour likely indicates an allergic reaction and the product should be discontinued.
For the do-it-yourself individual or those on a budget, try mixing a small 2oz bottle of pure tea tree oil (melaleuca alternifolia) into a 40oz shampoo (like a baby shampoo) and doing a 1-2 minute scrub of your lashes, once again taking care not to get any into your eye.
UPDATE - So I have now been using these twice a day for thirty day - did not miss a single application. The results have been amazing. I have been suffering for over a year with terrible painful eyelid irritation and inflammation, I was losing eyelashes. These wipes have worked better than I ever hoped possible. My eyedrop usage has gone from over 10x per day to none per day! The daily 'foreign body sensation' episodes are gone. It was painful to close my eyes to rest or sleep and that pain is gone. I had rosacea skin issues around my eyes, under my brows and on the outsides of my eyes, red bumps - those are gone now - seriously for the first time in years. I looked forward to applying this product - the cooling sensation was wonderful. I plan to keep using this product. Cliradex makers - if you are reading this THANK YOU!!!!
(Full disclosure - one facet of my 'dry eye' issue has not improved - the appearance of the whites of my eyes. They still look bloodshot and dingy, tired and old. I am hopeful with the inflammation being gone this will heal and improve.)
So I did my own research and learned that my problem MIGHT just be demodectic mites, a very common mite that most people have, but normally w/o problems. So I kicked my routine up a notch and ordered the Cliradex wipes. I wash my eyes and affected face areas with baby shampoo and then use the Cliradex wipe on eyelids, eyebrows and the area around my nose where the breakout was. The burning sensation was pretty intense but passed soon, as did the not very pleasant fragrance. I sure hope those mites are on their way out and complaining all the way.
All the articles that I read say that tea tree oil is about the only natural product that kills demodectic mites, so it is logical that the tea tree oil extract in Cliradex is doing what it is supposed to do. (as an experiment, I tried using a cotton ball containing just rubbing alcohol--no reaction at all.)
The redness around my nose is GONE. My eyes feel SO MUCH BETTER that I cannot describe the relief. I switched from Systane Balance drops to Systane Ultra bc they are thicker and last longer. It is important to keep the eyes hydrated, that was a huge problem before but I was so used to dry, scratchy eyes no matter what I did that I had given up. The Ultra is doing the job. I am very, very pleased with Cliradex, highly recommend.
It is not a cheap date. But the towelette is large enough to cut in two while it is still folded, I just save the other half for later in the day. There seems to be plenty of product in each half to do the job. (I do sanitize the scissors.)
Ladies, toss all that mascara, etc, you may well be re-infesting yourself each time you apply it! No wonder my eyes always seemed to itch more when I wore make-up. Play it safe.
But rest your soul... weary eyed human- I’ve been suffering for 6 months straight in the California super blooms. After the fifth the the the ophthalmologist I was recommended these wipes.
My ugly aged bumpy weary dark circled eyes that itched like hell from morning until night for moths on end—- disappeared in just 2 days!
My face looks years younger and my eyes have finally for the rest they so desperately needed.
Dark ugly purple scaly skin gone!!!!
Just don’t be over zealous, wipe twice over your tight shut eyelids and keep your lids shut for a minute. And don’t squeeze the wipe just barely wipe the eyelash line so you aren’t squeezing the juice into your eyeballs! Otherwise it’s your fault for not following my suggestions- lol
