Compression Packing Cube
Each backpack includes a compression packing cube made of premium waterproof eco-polyester to help you pack even more.
The packing cube has 2 compartments, a side for clean clothes and a side for dirty clothes.
Simply put in your clothes and use the zipper to compress the cube down from 13cm to 8cm. Pack all you need in half of the space and save more room for other travel essentials.
In addition to the compression packing cube, a laundry bag comes with each travel backpack to complete the set.
You can easily toss dirty clothes in the laundry bag. When the trip is over and the laundry bag is full, it will fit back into your backpack perfectly and keep your dirty clothes separate and organized.
You can easily fit one pair of shoes. (Up to U.S. size 14)
Keep your shoes separated from the rest of your clothes & maintain them dust-free.

As a cheap bag buyer I have seen backpacks of all shapes and sizes that come apart at the straps, the seams, the zips, and somehow convinced myself that it was ok because, hey, it was cheap. Two words now stand out in my mind: False. Economy.
Despite all of its many features the one that shines for the Sterkmann, at least for me, is this: it will not fall apart. And at around half the price of other top quality bags, that really does make this one a bargain.
All of the special bits you read about above are brilliant - the secret pockets, the ease of packing and unpacking, the size and expandability, but it's the sheer quality of the Sterkmann backpack that will make it your favourite. From the robust feel of the zips to the tough-as-nails fabric, the easy-access pockets and even the sunglasses holder, pick this baby up once and you will know what I mean. It just feels solid.
The other things that stand out are the looks - it's as good as or better than the $320 backpack my son recently purchased in the US - and the side straps that allow you to carry it like a (very attractive) briefcase. It's super comfortable as well, partly for the padding and also because it sits higher up than the cheap rubbish that I will never again have to buy.
Add this one to the rave reviews because this, my friend, is the last backpack you will ever buy. You're going to love it.
Most of all, the bag was comfortable to wear.
I would recommend this bag and would happily purchase it again.
I love that the bag can be slipped onto the suitcase handle, making it easier for those longer trips with just carry on baggage( where you are allowed two bags on board)

I looked for something that was a cross between the Nomatic backpack and the Standard Daily backpack and when I saw the 30L Sterkmann bag, I was shocked it was not well advertised at all. If you look at the features and the shape, the functionality - it almost looks like all the design cues were taken from the Nomatic Travel backpack. This is not a bad thing as the Nomatic was designed with functionality and form in mind.
The Sterkmann has been my daily bag ever since. I have used it for holidaying and work alike. It has a great laptop pouch which is padded (and you can pretty much keep another laptop in the iPad sleeve which i have done). It has great hidden storage behind the back pouch which is awesome for keeping valuables. The back straps can be hidden for a low profile business briefcase look and I have found this to be very useful when commuting so that the straps don't get in the way. The side handles are also extremely sturdy - I must have had two laptops and several days worth of clothes + a lunchbox in my backpack and it has survived the weight. The expandable nature of the backpack is also a fantastic feature. by expanding it, you can open it in the middle of the backpack and open it like a briefcase - another great feature of packing for a holiday. I have used the bag in the rain - and yes it is definitely waterproof. Although it doesn't seem to list YKK zippers (as many know as the best in class), they appear to use something that is quite similar.
Some reviews notice that the zips are a bit sticky at first - but this is to be expected given its waterproof nature and the fact that they have more rubber than normal zips. It seemed to get better as I used it more. There are also two water bottle holders on either side of the backpack and it will happily carry a metal water bottle which is around 500ml. Some people have commented they struggle to get a good sized water bottle in - well if you're not carrying a massive 1ltr or 750ml bottle, it will fit.
The top opening spot is massively similar to Nomatic backpacks. A lot of new Kickstarter campaigns you will find this sort of feature being increasingly popular. I can put my toiletries at the top whilst travelling and you can access it with ease at the security scan. The extra box packing cubes are also a great addition - a shoe bag along, laundry bag and compressable packing cube. I have found the compression cube to be slightly heavier than I would expect (compared to the great Muji ones), but it functions well. What I have found is that the leather zip pulls have added an extra sense of premium to the backpack. Fantastic workmanship.
Overall the backpack is comfortable to wear. It is slightly heavier than some backpacks I have been used to, presumably due to its premium material and overall structure. It is probably the only thing I would consider changing about the backpack - the weight. However despite this, I will enjoy using this backpack for years to come.
The zippers are extremely resilient when you need to leave the office or train in an rush. Previous backpacks zippers would jam causing another unnecessary issue. The Sterkman has proven itself resilient against commuters last second rush as it has never failed on me and glides up and down with ease. Additionally, the zippers are waterproof for those days you forget your umbrella or backpack cover. Living in UK we tend to have a fair few showers and the water proof coating on the backpack proves to generate one less concern, for those of you who worry their electronics, documentation and clothing will get wet this bag ensure everything is well protected. I may also add the zipper camouflages itself from the common eye so thief's will have to look extra close to which zipper opens which pocket.
Overall the compartments include:
Laptop side (back of bag)
- 13inch laptop slot
- 15inch laptop slot
- 1 zipper compartment below
- 3 pockets opposite
Front compartment (front of bag)
- 2 fairly large zipper pockets
- Mass amounts of space for clothing/electronics/documention
2 side pockets
- 2 symmetrical side pockets (Great place to store portable chargers)
2 internal hidden side pockets
- 2 internal symmetrical hidden slide pockets
1 pocket on top of backpack
- A hidden pocket to store items of your choice.
3 laptop handles
- 2 identical handles at the side of the bag for those last minute grabs
- A well padded handle at the top of backpack
I will upload some pictures which a measuring tape to the pockets, I know I was concerned if my portable charger would fit in the side pocket along with my flask (maximum measurements included). Check out my pictures, hope it helps.
Now….. if I was really picky, the straps may prove to be a little small. One of my previous backpacks straps were large meaning it would dig a line in my shoulders when I cram the backpack. You can also purchase some shoulder straps that are well padded to mitigate this minor issue.
Is the backpack free standing?
If packed correctly the backpack does stand freely
A waterproof protection gives it a sturdy tough feel. The handle at the top is well padded too.
24.1 x 30.5 x 47 cm – please see images cm measurements
30L expansion capacity for 2-4 days travel.
Is there a detachable shoulder strap to carry it side ways?
No, this does not have a sideways strap.
Size of the bottle it can hold
The bottle compartment cant be stretch to roughly 11cm (see images)
I hope my experience will make your backpack searching a little less stress free. :)
I’ve managed to fit 3/4 days worth clothes, a pair of shoes and other travel necessities, including two laptops and a Nintendo switch, and although heavy (my own fault) it was comfortable enough to carry around for an hour to my hotel.
And better still, after unloading at the hotel and packing only what I needed for business, I found it professional looking enough to bring into board meetings.
I came across this bag as an alternative to a bag from a google search and this was a customers also viewed this product and I’m glad I did, in fact I would suggest this bag should be higher up the list of options.
I have used the bag on a couple of day trips when not expanded and a couple of overnight work trips and have been really impressed. It’s heavier than expected but you get a feeling of a quality made bag. Like others founds the zips a little stiff to begin with but confident that has reduced and will improve.
It’s actually quite comfortable with one or both straps in use be it expanded or not. Good use of pocket space and location although feel the soft secure pocket on the top should be bigger, I have an IPhone X with a Otterbox case and it doesn’t quite fit but that is not really a big deal. The shoe bag just fits a pair of 10.5 shoes but it’s quite impressive how much you can pack into the bag overall and the compression pack works better than expected.
Well made good quality bag that is worth the higher than I wanted to spend cost but can’t complain for all you get for your money.
I would definitely recommend purchasing or at the very least consider this bag.
1 the side
Pockets are not big enough to fit a water bottle of normal size without stretching the he’ll out of them and doing. Lot of force, no practical.
2 the bad I received is dawn totally out of symmetry, is twisted and it looks cheap and weird, no the quality finish you would expect
For the price you pay.
3 i think it could do with smaller front pocket and internal mesh for power adapters.
In summary I was disappointed with it and I will be return it.
However it may work for you, for me is not worth the money.
I was very aware of a particularly popular Kickstarter bag and loved the styling of that, however the price is eyewatering.
After much research I came upon the Sterkmann bag and I love it. After a month or so of use I genuinely can't fault it. The material is spot on, the zips are great and look to be very weather resistant. Tons of pockets and space and it looks very similar to the aforementioned Kickstarter bag.
The bag comes with a shoe bag, laundry bag and a packing cube.
10/10 from me. Will stick with Sterkmann going forward. Absolutely recommended!
Good build quality, waterproof zips, small reflective patch but otherwise understated and nice shape. Great padding and fold away straps. Handles on top and side are strong and very useful. Nice expansion size too.
Inside pockets are padded (laptop/iPad) or netted and zipped. A good range and places to store most things. Also tow inside pockets with open tops suited to a phone or battery back-up.
Only downside are the bottle holders. Too small even for a small bottle of water (height is fine, diameter will not fit.
Still a great pack and great value!
There are backpacks less well designed and thought out for 3 times the price. You won’t be disappointed by this bag.
I'm just gonna let the top review by "MC" do all the talking for me. Exactly as described there...
Functionality - AMAZING
Form & Looks - AWESOME
Material - FANTASTIC
Workmanship - SUPERB
And all that for less than half the price of the only real competitors, Nomatic's Backpack / Travel Pack !
As also stated in the aforementioned review, why Sterkmann doesn't advertise this gem more is mind-boggling.
Main reason I wanted a new backpack was because normal top open bags are a nightmare when you need to carry laptop, cables and gym gear. This opens out so much that it gives such easy access to everything and also is very streamlined at the same time. The packing cube, laundry bag and shoe bag will all come in very helpful too!
Can’t recommend enough.
Too late to return it now so I have ordered a press stud replacement kit (£10.00) and will be getting out my sail repair kit on his return!
There are lots of places to put things and it easily handles my 15 inch Dell Inspiron. It also has a nice touch where you can tuck away the shoulder straps in a back panel so you can carry it like a briefcase into a meeting.
Having travelled a lot with a trolley and a laptop bag this fits the bill for a decent all in one.
One comment I would make is with a big laptop and all the peripherals and your clothes it does feel quite heavy. But with a smaller laptop or tablet only this may be better.
