Not as good as Book 1, but still entertaining

I have to say this book was a little bit of a let-down from the first (and excellent) book
The Verdant Passage: Prism Pentad, Book 1
in the Prism Pentad series. Mostly because it only has Rikus from the original book, and while he is a great, savage, and courageous character, I think there may have been too much of him in this book. It seems like it takes the whole book to do something that should have taken a lot less pages - but I guess it's all part of the journey. This is particularly noticeable with the things and people that happen to Rikus. There is some more great stuff in here about the ancient history of Athas, which is always great for me to read, having never played the Dark Sun D&D setting itself. This book reminded me of some of the more monotonous Warhammer books, in that it seemed like it was just one battle scene after another. I'm still sticking with the series though, and can't wait to read
The Amber Enchantress (Prism Pentad, Book 3)
.

Can I have My Time Back Please!

I was told by a friend with similar tastes in books that this is good series.
I read the first book, and was underwhelmed. Denning has great difficulty developing his characters, and plots.
While they are extremely imaginative, and may work well as a movie, they are terrible in book format. The number of plot holes you have to ignore, and assumptions you have to make is ridiculous.
I was hoping that the second book would be better than the first. It is not. I will read the third one just because I want to see how it ends, but suspect I will also dislike it.

I prefer the first book in the series, purely out of preference. Book one focuses on a few characters, whereas this book follows a few characters as well as large-scale forces and large battles so it is a lot more spaced out. Still, it was a very gripping book and like #1 will likely imprint an interest in the rest of the series. It got me on to book 3, but left me yearning for more small scale plots.

The book keep you enthralled the whole time, the battles and the characters are simply awesome!, Its focused on Rikus, the Mul Gladiator recently freed. You see how has to resolve not only his struggles with his personal feelings and vendetta while leading an army to defend the freedom of Tyr, his city state. Any Dark Sun Fan must read it!
