Cellular phones are doing most of the calling in my household these days, but I still like having “old-school” handsets connected to wall jacks in the home. I've had a Crosley desk model phone for years and it still performs flawlessly, so I decided to go with this Princess model as a nice vintage touch in a guest room.
This phone is very substantial: solid in hand, heavy, just like the phones in the old days! The dial is just for show of course, and the little push buttons are the only component that feels a little cheap. My one star off is because the handset cord is not removable (usually that cord should clip in with a modular plug at both ends); this means you have no way to replace it with an extra long curly cord.
I read reviews of this product before I purchased it. Firstly, I've always wanted a pink princess phone. Now, at my age, I finally have one. I just hate those cordless phones so I wanted something old school. One review said the handset cord plugged into the left side of the phone. The picture looks that way but mine plugs into the right side of the phone. Some reviews said there was a buzzing noise on the phone but I don't have that issue. The phone sounds crisp and clear. Nothing was broken, scratched, dented or otherwise imperfect on the phone. On the bottom are three switches: one for volume lo/hi, one for tone/pulse, and one for ringer on/off. Good old fashioned weight to this phone. It doesn't get pulled off onto the floor when I answer it. It has a solid, heavy base. Nice, old fashioned ring, not that high pitched chirp of newer phones. Someone complained that the handset falls off the cradle too easily. I have not found that to be true. It does not have caller ID. I plug it into an old Bell Telephone Caller ID box I've had for years. Works just fine. No lighted dial like the original. Nice old fashioned handset cord that is a slight cooler shade of pink than the phone itself. People were complaining about the black phone line cord but I had a silver cord that I used instead. No problem. The handset is much easier for me to hold for long conversations than those thicker cordless phones. Basically, I love it! I gave it four stars only because the dial doesn't light up. I would recommend this phone.
Cute old fashion phone for a cute old fashion grandma who doesn't like bells and whistles. Great that she can just pick it up and talk without pushing answer buttons, etc. It's a little expensive, but I guess it was worth it for grandma's peace of mind. It is sturdy and heavy enough not to easily be pulled off the table .
Heavy, solidly built. When I use the handset and it stretches the cord, the base of the unit does NOT move at all--how wonderful! Nothing about the phone seems flimsy. I've had the phone for about 6 months and very much like it. I wish the buttons lit up when the headset is lifted off the base. The headset is comfortable in my hand, just like phones used to be in the old days. I recommend this and am a very happy customer.
Received today, love love it, brings back memories when I had a blue one. Made good and heavy, talked on it already, no static and person on other end said it sounded good and clear! I hope it lasts and will update in a few months. You won't be disappointed with the way it's made, nice and heavy! Thanks Amazon, you have everything I look for!
this is such a cute phone and i love the ring but it is REALLY LOUD, even on the low setting. i can hear it all over my house lol. but i'll never miss a call! i get a lot of compliments on it, as well. very heavy duty and really could double as a self-defense device lol.
super cute. color is great but the line has static and once the cord breaks you need a new phone as the cord is fused to the phone... for me its more for show and the occasion pick up call. so it works ok regardless.
