D’addario’s coiled instrument cables not only provide vintage aesthetics, but are part of the vintage tonal equation. Due to the extra cable length needed to produce its coiled effect, This cable has a higher total capacitance compared to straight cables of the same length. This added capacitance provides a slightly warmer tone while retaining the dynamics of your playing, perfect for taming high frequencies of instruments with passive single coil or humbucking pick-ups. These coiled cables also feature a coaxial oxygen-free copper conductor with two layers of noise-rejecting shielding to provide quiet operation and superior strain relief for the ultimate high-performance cable. Available in a variety of colors. D'addario custom Series cables utilize ultra-pure, oxygen-free copper conductors for low capacitance and pure tone. Two layers of shielding provide 100% coverage For superior insulation and noise rejection, making this the ultimate, high-performance cable.

This is more important than it's appearance which should be thought of as a secondary attribute.
That being said, this cable succeeds beautifully for amps that are slightly bright. Happy to report that although treble is reduced, it maintains PRESRNCE, detail (sparkle) unlike cheaper coil cords I've used and it's very, very well made. It may be indicative of it's quality, but also appears to be quieter than my 20ft Planet Waves Cables and stronger in the bass, mids as a perceived result. A
bit on the heavier side of things too.
I have it paired with a mildy modified Epiphone Valve Jr combo with a 10in speaker shoehorned in. This amp is just a little bright no matter what and this cable was the remedy.
On amps like my Traynor YBA-1 that have a treble control you simply bump it another notch and it sounds exactly the same as other cables, only quieter.
I would not consider this cable though if your sound is perceived as "perfect," because it does in truth color the sound but in a musical, pleasing way. That's kind of the point though.
What's important from a review standpoint is that the other attributes that make for a good, solid and long lasting instrument cable - quiet use of operation, maintaining of details, signal and overall durability - are all here.
Personally speaking, the coiled, slightly off white coloring is absolutely adorable and adds a little style and flair. A friend of mine was intrigued to pick up and play just by noticing the cable alone.
Yep. Good stuff.
With my Parker Fly guitar and Fender amp, this cable obviously attaches securely, with a satisfying tactile feel. The little O Ring is just wide enough to hold it in place. There's a little branding on the actual plug, which is normally something I need just to tell one cable from another, but I suppose for a coiled cable it's just there for looks.
The coil is consistent, and doesn't really tug that much on me as I play. It's definitely nice for avoiding tangles, but it also just looks professional. My guitar is black so the cable looks particularly sharp. I can move around really easily with this cable, which is deceptively long compared to how it will look all coiled in.
I was surprised that I can actually hear a better tone with this cable. I saw that bit on the product description and thought that was silly, but there is an obviously richer sound, particularly at higher notes, which do not sound as tinny or annoyingly resonant as many higher notes on electric guitars can be. It really sounds 'right' to me. I hear no difference at lower notes.
D'Addario is a great brand for many music products, but this one really takes the cake. It's pretty expensive for a guitar cable, but if you're using nice strings every few months, on a nice guitar, with nice audio processing, you probably will be amazed at how a simple and relatively inexpensive upgrade to the cable makes such a nice improvement.
Even though I use shorter practice cables that aren't very old (less than 2 years), several of them don't seem to have a tight enough connection to the guitar input jack, and I get some unwanted sounds from this less-than-tight connection from a couple of older guitars. I was pleasantly surprised to find that using this cable on the same guitars eliminates the noise. I assume it just has a better, tighter connection. Whatever the reason, it is an immediate improvement over lesser cables. That alone makes it worth having.
I like the coiling of the cable, although it means it doesn't lay flat on the floor like most cables. Assuming that's not an issue, I would strongly recommend this good quality cable without reservation.
