If you purchase this product, be careful when you file it down. I used a metal nail file but was a bit too rough and it chipped off in a few spots around the edges. It didn't fall apart, however, and the puck itself was in one piece when it arrived. It took a good 10 - 20 minutes to fully coat a new bow plus several spot applications, but I didn't come close to making a dent in the puck. It's tiny, but at this rate it will last. Excellent tone once the bow was prepared; I am a cello player who is venturing into learning the violin. I was surprised at the resonance and tonal quality I was able to generate from this tiny little instrument after the bow was appropriately coated.
This rosin has a dial in the bottom to allow you to turn the puck after use. Great feature to help eliminate waste. What's the point of buying a giant rosin puck if you only use the the bow-shaped indent in the middle?
As a violist who plays with a carbon fiber bow and a 4k viola. It's meh. I bought a cheap viola years ago and that rosin works like a charm. This one is really hard to use because its not roughed out and I don't have sand paper at home. So I tried different ways of making it rough and ended up chipping it. But when it finally worked, it was okay. Meh tone and I feel like its not sticky enough. It give you sound, just doesn't give u the rich tone and sound a different type of rosin would give. [Bought this cuzz I was outta rosin and I needed it for a online comp]. Buy it if u need it badly.
