Top international reviews
1. Quick to settle down - so they stop going out of tune quickly - stay in tune (electronic) for about a week after a week or so.
2. Lovely tone.
3. Comfortable to the fingers.
4. Long lasting, well made and have a quality finished.
5. Very good price, considering the quality - a Dominant replacement.
3 sets (2 as backup) were bought and after racking up at least 400 hours of practice & orchestral performance over 18months, only 2 strings needed replacing, one of which ("A" string) had its wound metal coat damaged by a metal object. The only string to fail due to normal wear and tear was the "E" string, which after 16months, started "humming" to itself.
These strings do sound good on what is a hideously cheap violin. (I got it free though broken with a case I wanted). That said a lot of the improvement was by fitting a new bridge, and leaving it thick cut.
All that said, the violin now sounds a lot lot better than it did do before I changed anything! Certainly, in this price range, a set of strings I would recommend.
its remarkable - the scratching and squeking stopped fully.
it sounds warm and beautiful.
Naturally what works for one instrument won't necessarily fit another, so the tone quality should be taken with a grain of salt. Manufacturing quality and flaws, however, do not discriminate based on instrument selection. The A string has an infinitesimal flaw right around where you plant your finger for D. Though it is small, it makes shifting into other positions more difficult. My finger catches the flaw in the winding, each time I shift, resulting in drag. This means I can no longer land shifts on A in-tune. Consistency is gone. So now I get to order a new A string.
Other reviews are pretty accurate when they say there seems to be a problem with quality control. I won't be buying these again. Two stars is generous.
Compared to other synthetic core strings, these settle in fairly quickly. I play every day for an hour or so and they were settled in about two days. They are very stable in helping the instrument stay in tune and do not slip often. These strings are a very good value for the money--violin strings are rather expensive compared to guitar strings. I use D'Addario Kaplan Artcraft Rosin in Light, which I think works well with my bow and these strings.
Edit: For some reason the last set of these strings the G was sound very thick and would not fit in my tailpiece slot (I do not have fine tuners). This was upsetting as I do not want to alter my wood tailpiece. Thankfully, I was able to return the string and got one that fit correctly. The E in that package wasn't wound all the way down and I returned that one as well to avoid the steel string from cutting into my tailpiece and damaging it.
