I put this Diawa 50lb J-Braid 8 on a Shimano Saragosa 10,000 reel and use it off a breakwall and from a boat close to shore. It certainly is a good quality braid that can withstand some abrasion on the rockwall. It also has the strength to save some hooks and sinkers and will break off cungi where I fish. I've found when using a lighter braid I would generally lose the whole rig but using this I, more often then not, lose only my hook.
First off, the one complaint I have with this is that the dye comes off on your fingers, as you are spooling it on reels. It's not absolutely horrible like some lines, but it's not nice either and something I haven't experienced on other quality lines like Powerpro etc. Apparently it doesn't hold it's colour well, according to what I've seen but that's of no concern to me really. Most don't, so I don't quibble about that, but when it's coming off on my fingers?
Now for the good, it's a very round line, makes very strong nice knots too, no issues at all there. I've heard it casts well, due to the fact it's 8 strand and rounder by nature. I will have to see about that come spring. Haven't put any serious weight on it reeling wise yet, but from what I can tell just from spooling it, is it's certainly quieter through the guides than 4 strand. Pretty happy with it so far, based on my very limited experience with it currently. If anything changes I will come back and edit it, good or bad, but this is a best selling line people love, I can't see not liking it.
