I gave the socks two stars, one star because they are warm and one star because they dry fast. But I think the texture of the socks is too rough and rubbed my skin raw. After one four-hour hike, I had a blister forming on my left foot. And on the second day with an eight-hour hike, the first blister tripled in size (growing around a blister plaster) and I got a blister on the other foot. The blisters stuck to the socks, so at camp I soaked my feet with my socks on, hoping I could then remove my socks. And even then, the blisters still stuck to the socks and both blisters tore off when I removed the socks. They was VERY painful. I had to take a day off from my four-day hike to let my skin heal enough to put my boots back on. Thankfully, I brought one pair of my favorite hiking socks, which saved my hiking trip. I wished I had not considered the positive reviews of these socks and had not worn Darn Tough socks! They may be tough and durable. But they are NOT socks you want to do any real hiking in! Sleep in them, but do not hike in them!
My wife wore these (several pairs) on a recent 60 km Cape Scott hike. She loved them. Right balance of cushion and comfort. She's normally very susceptible to blisters but didn't get any this time (but she did also use Leukotape, etc. as a precaution)
These socks are absolutely the most comfortable I have ever bought. They provide excellent cushion for power walking and hiking, wash up well and the heals do not wear out like most other socks (including Smartwool socks). I highly recommend them!
I'm disappointed with these socks considering the price paid for them. I expected the same quality as other leading brands in a similar price range but they aren't as good. The material does feel nice and tough. However these hiking socks don't have the same arch support and snug feeling that I get from other brands. There is no shaping to them so because of this I found that by the end of the day they had fallen down and moved around in my boots. I'll definitely be sticking to my other trusted name brands in the future like smartwool and icebreaker. They hug my feet, offer extra support and stay in place.
Darn Tough are hands down the best socks I have ever owned. Everything else pales in comparison. They don't wear through, they don't retain smells, they're soft and supportive, they last longer than all my other socks, absolutely worth the price!
I did end up going up a size from small to medium based off of previous purchases of these socks (I'm usually a size 6.5 or 7 which is a recommended size S, but the Small always felt a bit too tight) If you are right on the cusp of being S-M or M-L, I'd recommend sizing up.
but too small at top band so had to return as would leave marks on my leg and interfere with lymphatic and circulatory system; had to move to "diabetic" section on socks and found some wonderful beautiful ones that fit. Company great as sent me several emails to try and help me find something that would work for me.
