De'Longhi EcoDecalk, Natural Descaler for Coffee Machines 500ML, DLSC500
Special care for special moments
A build-up of limescale in your machine may cause your coffee to taste unpleasant, it can clog up the internal components and can even lead to malfunctioning in changing the optimal brewing temperature. Regular removal of limescale will improve performance, ensuring efficiency and will extend the life of the machine. Your fully automatic coffee machine will indicate when it needs to be descaled. The descaling process on our fully automatic coffee machines is simple:
- Pour a single dose (100 ml) of De’Longhi EcoDecalk into the water tank
- Fill the tank as indicated in the instruction manual of your coffee machine
- Perform the procedure described on the display or in the machine instruction manual
- Rinse the tank with clean water
DID YOU KNOW?
The water we use every day is rich in calcium and magnesium, which determine how hard it is.The harder the water is, the greater the threat. Accumulation of limescale over time deteriorates the hydraulic circuit and the heating elements of your devices, reducing their efficiency and increasing relative energy consumption by up to 30%.

- Improves coffee flavour and aroma
- Increases energy efficiency - limescale accumulation can boost energy consumption up to 30%

- Best Value Pack! 500 ml pack - for 4 descaling operations
Your Care and Cleaning Calendar, Best For De'Longhi Bean To Cup Coffee Machines
Every 3 Months: Descale
Descaling is recommended every 3 months. If you own a De'Longhi fully automatic coffee machine, the display will indicate when the machine needs to be descaled.
Please Note: time may differ according to water hardness, settings and number of coffees produced per day, machine alerts when descaling is required.
Every 2 Months: Change Water Filter
Changing the water filter of your coffee machine is recommended every 2 months, check your coffee machine manual instruction for more information.
Every Month: Clean Spare Parts
Together with descaling there are other easy steps that you recommend to take to keep your coffee machine perfectly functioning. Every month - even sooner if needed - remember to clean the brewing unit/infuser, the coffee grounds container and drip tray. Clean inside the machine and the water tank.
Also, don't forget you can use the Automatic Cleaning Function on the milk container, after every milk beverage.
Tips on Water and Milk
98% of the liquid in the cup is made of water, as a consequence, the water used in the coffee machine must clearly be fresh, as well as flavourless, odourless and colourless.
The other factor that influences the quality of water is the water hardness (due to the presence of calcium and magnesium mineral). The ideal water hardness is approximately 9 French degrees (or 90 mg/l). You can buy separately a water softener filter for hard water to increase performance and improve coffee flavour.
To create high-quality milk froth, make sure the milk is fresh, used straight from the refrigerator (stored at a temperature of approx. 5°C). This will ensure to reach the ideal temperature when heat is added to it to create the foam. With LatteCrema System, we recommend using semi-skim milk in order to obtain the best results in terms of foam texture, volume and taste. Don't forget to clean the milk container after each use, with the Automatic Cleaning Function.

He hecho un pequeño video mientras descalcificaba mi cafetera.
The bottle contains five treatments (marked down the side of the label, just pour slowly and you won't go wrong) so, depending on the hardness of your water and how many cups of coffee you consume, one bottle should last between 5 and 10 months (or so). We have soft water, so a bottle lasts a little longer than that, even though we have quite a bit of coffee.
De'Longhi also produce descalers in single use sachets - these work out a little less cost effective but offer the convenience of a one-dose format without needing to judge how much to pour.
Once the descaler has been through the coffee machine, someone at De'Longhi customer service helpfully suggested I put the solution into the milk jug and use it to clean through the pipes and nozzles; it works a treat.
But when my descale light stayed illuminated I filled the tank with vinegar and did the clean program.... that really cleaned the limescale out
Much cheaper in the long run for the very minor difference of having to pour out of a bottle instead of a plastic doser. Recommended.
I would recommend this product, as it carries out a very thorough clean, flushing out small coffee ground deposits, and leaving your next brew tasting as good as the first.
This little bottle takes care of that. (Not your Christmas weight that’s what your January gym membership is for) but it’s kept my machine running as smooth as my cappuccinos are.
A little on the pricey side but these things always are.
Having recently purchased a Delonghi EC685 coffee maker and used the single-use sachet included for descaling, it was time for another, according to the flashing light on the machine!
Best prices were at Amazon, at the time of writing, so I picked the 500 ml size bottle for 5 applications, as it was better value than the smaller, 2 application pack.
Exactly as shown in the current stock images above, the product is presented in a cardboard box, measuring around 7.5 cm square x 19 cm tall, so too high for the coffee cupboard, in my case.
On a base diameter of around 6 cm, the opaque plastic-type bottle stands around 18.5 cm tall with the green childproof cap in situ ~ push down firmly and unscrew to open.
On a leaflet attached to the side of the bottle are multi-lingual safety warnings, and it is necessary to check the cleaning/descale instructions requirements for the relevant model. The safety warnings are also on the packaging box.
Handy videos for this product are on YouTube, if required, but it is a simple enough process.
Pour 100 ml by following the incremented 1-5 guide, also on the side of the bottle.
A suitably sized container is required to catch the descaler/water solution as it comes out of the machine and, as I’d read elsewhere, I re-used it to de-scale the electric kettle, too, which definitely worked.
I cannot see a visible difference with the coffee machine, but the flashing light has gone out, so I assume success!
