I remember this book from my own childhood and it was one I wanted to share with my daughter. The board book is sturdy and the flaps are thick enough to withstand an 11 month old grabbing and yanking at them. I am not at all worried that she'll destroy this book. I have other lift-the-flap books that seem a lot flimsier than this.
She just loves peeking under the flaps to find the animals! As she gets older I'm sure she will love the story too.

I have purchased both the board and normal Dear Zoo book to cater for different ages. It is a colourful and interactive book that our granddaughter has enjoyed since 6 months old. Now at 10 months she still loves “exposing” the animals and gets great joy from the storyline. Short enough to keep the attention span of little ones.

Great classic book. My only thoughts would be that the flaps on the images could be a little more secure (perhaps my 2 year old is heavy-handed?!) but otherwise a lovely book.

You'll wind up buying the whole zoo.

Good book, but be aware that you'll wind up buying the whole zoo! This book led to all manner of other books about cats, dogs, penguins, and who knows what else. We now have quite the menagerie of literature. A very clever concept by the author (if there is one defining animal, I would say it's a cash cow!), but very enjoyable for a little one all the same, so worth the investment.

Essential reading
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 13 August 2016Verified Purchase
I loved this book as a child and as a result bought it for my child when I had him 12 years ago. Unfortunately after much well loved reading, it had become damaged beyond belief! I purchased this book for my youngest as she turned 1 and has started showing interest in story books. I hope she goes on to love this book too.
Each double page has an ending the is repeated, meaning you can make a nice little rhyme out of it when you read it and the child(ren) can join in as they know what is coming. The story is simply but flows and the different flaps hiding each animal are bright, creative and in all different shapes and sizes.
I STRONGLY recommend this book as I believe it is one of the essentials needed in every house!

Simple but fun.
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 5 March 2018Verified Purchase
I bought this book for my 3 year old son as they read it to the children at nursery quite frequently and he talks a lot about it.
Its an extremely simple story- but with the open up windows the story becomes interactive for the child- and my son likes saying what he knows are behind the flaps.
It's ridiculously repetitive- but my boy adores it and we always add little extras ourselves to the story to keep in interesting.

Loved this book when I was younger and brought it for my son, however the flaps on a couple of the pages weren’t cut properly and I can’t get them open and don’t want to try and break it but we have tried multiple times and it won’t open. It’s also missing the last page of the book. However still a great book, we probably just got a dodgy one xx
UPDATE: They sent me a new copy the same day and it’s in perfect condition and very happy with it! Xx

A classic
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 28 January 2016Verified Purchase
Dear Zoo is another classic book I remember from my childhood, which I could not resist purchasing for my own children.
It is a lift-the-flap board book, which I find are always popular. The story is a very simple one, of a child who has written to the zoo to send them a pet. The zoo sends on various animals, but there is always a problem – the animal is either too big or too tall and so on.
My daughter loves this book. She’s had it since she was born, but even now she is approaching two she still reads it a lot. She loves naming the different animals and talking about them. She doesn’t seem to get board of the lift-the-flap element. I would definitely recommend this book for babies and young toddlers alike.
