Give the Gift of Adventure
With this gift set and a handful of dice, a gamer has everything they need for a lifetime of Dungeons & Dragons role-playing.
In Dungeons & Dragons, a group of friends coauthor their own legend. They create characters and play their roles in a story, rolling dice and navigating maps as they unfold a tale as limitless as their imagination.
All the books they need to do so are in this gift set. Inside are foil cover editions of the three main Dungeons & Dragons books—the Player’s Handbook, Dungeon Master’s Guide, and Monster Manual—plus a Dungeon Master’s Screen, also with foil treatment.

---|---|---|---|
Player’s HandbookThe Player’s Handbook is the essential reference for every Dungeons & Dragons roleplayer. It contains rules for character creation and advancement, backgrounds and skills, exploration and combat, equipment, spells, and much more. |
Dungeon Master’s GuideThe Dungeon Master’s Guide teaches how to run D&D adventures for the other players how to give them monsters to fight, mysteries to solve, and fantasy worlds to explore. |
Monster ManualThe Monster Manual allows the Dungeon Master (the game’s narrator) to fill Dungeons & Dragons games with monsters—to populate the game with pesky goblins and mighty dragons for players to battle or beguile, outwit or outrun. |
Dungeon Master’s ScreenThe Dungeon Master’s Screen helps the Dungeon Master (the game’s narrator) keep die rolls and notes hidden from players. Plus, the inside is filled with at-a-glance references for the most relevant and commonly used in game information to help keep the game running smoothly. |

An innovator in providing contemporary fantasy entertainment, Dungeons & Dragons is the wellspring for the entire modern game industry, digital as well as tabletop. Fifth edition D&D draws from every prior edition to create a universally compelling play experience, and exemplifies the true spirit of a game that holds captive the hearts and minds of millions of players worldwide. The core rulebook series consists of three books: the Player’s Handbook, the Monster Manual, and the Dungeon Master’s Guide.

The Player's Handbook occasionally suffered from some very slight blurring on some headings, aside from this I have found no issues.
The Dungeon Master's Guide was actually in very poor condition, the binding was flush with the bottom of the cover rather than being centred (this caused rubbing if inserted into the accompanying case or a bookshelf); the fabric spine of the book stuck out and was not secured at the bottom; headings suffer the same issue as the Player's Handbook; the book has a black stain on the bottom (most likely caused by rubbing against the case); the last few pages have been dented and the last-most page has a small tear; the cover has an indentation, it looks to have been caused by a price tag that was there previously.
The Monster Manual came in perfect condition and I have no issues with it.
The Dungeon Master's Screen was in acceptable condition, although there was some slight creasing in the paper layer at the foldable sections.
The slipcase was actually surprisingly useful. I almost always carry around my items to my D&D events so having the option to restrain them together is a great option to have. The carboard it's made of is also fairly stiff so it is also fairly protective.
EDIT: After a couple of month I have noticed that all the items are prone to two things; crumpling and rubbing.
The paper covers were all about half a centimeter off from the actual book, this caused it to easily and irreversibly crumple under light pressure.
The paper covers were also susceptible when rubbed against other objects (including the other items when placed inside of, and retrieved from the slipcase. This caused the items to gain several blurred and grey splotches scattered across them. I have markings from inside the slipcase from the books rubbing against it.
My only complaint is cosmetic rather than functional - the case arrived with a damaged corner as if it had been dropped. The shipping box looked fine, so this might have occurred prior to shipping, but the box it shipped in was bigger than needed with inadequate padding to stop movement, which is really unlike most things I receive from Amazon
Of particular note, the 3 Handbooks have a metallic sheen, which sets them apart from their regular counterparts.
This product exceeded my expectations. It arrived in 2 business days and the price was also amazing. Perfect in every way!!!

The slip case is matt black with a glossy black D&D "&" symbol and the words Dungeons & Dragons in white with red underline on both sides, the blurb on the back of the box is a loose sheet that's not attached.
It's a beautiful boxed set. If you can pick this up for a similar price to the three separate books and the screen, then it's a no brainer. Buy, buy, buy! Whether or not it's worth more than that, well, that just depends on how much you want foil covers and a slip case.
It should be noted that these are NOT the alternate art covers. They are the standard art covers with a lovely shiny foil effect.

As somebody who owned none of the rulebooks or DM screen, this is a bargain compared to the cost of buying it all individually, plus it all comes in a nice looking display box. The price of the books does still make me shake my head a little, but the convenience of having them and presentation of them at least leaves them as a nice collection to my bookshelf that will actually be used fairly regularly.
I would say that if you have none of the books and want to buy them, this is definitely the option for you since (as of writing this) it is, as I said, cheaper than buying it all individually. If you already own one or two items from this boxset, I would look at buying the remaining items individually since the box and foil covers really aren't worth doubling up on books you already have.

For many one of the first book you going to be reading is the player's handbook. This will guide you through building your own character in D&D you do not nesscary have to read the whole book through if you have a character in mind you can skip to the pages that matter and ignore the rest.
You will find yourself doing a lot of page turning back and forth so maybe wise to have scrape of paper at hand to take notes as you build your character.
I be honest in next two books I hardly touched at present as these are geared towards players that want to run there own d&d adventures so i can only give you a brief view.
The DM book is packed full of all the nesscary rules in creating adventures at first it seems a bit overwhelming with what the bok throws at you. But thankfully there is a step to step guide to help you create your own adventure but if you dont have the time to plan that all out there is a very handly dungeon generator in back of the book will help crreate a dungeon in next to no time. There is also the GM shield that has all the rules you need to look up on the fly but i have to admit i not looked at yet or even upwrapped it (more on that why later)
The Monster Manual is essential book you will need if you are running your own D&D adventures giving you a run down of monsters you can find in world of D&D. You will be hard pressed to not find a monster that you can use in a given setting be it, from Dragons (of course) to Vampires!
So again for content there is a lot hear that you can not fault, for some someone that wants to create a character and then maybe run there own D&D however if you only looking at creating character then it would be better if you just brought the Players Guide the other two wouldnt matter to you.
Now back to why i never unwrapped the GM shield, what has let this lovely box set down is the quality control. Both purchase and the replacement for it had damage to the pages of the books this is not the fault of Amazon. The issue lies with the publisher as box set arrives sealed.
Update - It has taken 4 attempts to acutal get a box set that was not acutally faulty in some way. We are paying a lot of money for three books you think that the quality would match also. So it goes without saying if you get your box set spend about 10 mins just going through the books checking for marks, rips, incorrect printing (i had this happen in my 3rd replacement) and even missing pages (as one reviewer as mention).

The books I received were in perfect condition and are the quality product you'd expect from WotC.
I was a D&D player and GM back in the 1980s but not since then, and I wanted to start again so these books cover pretty much everything I'll need to approach the new edition of the game. Not everyone wants to be a GM, of course, but for those who do this is an excellent value set.
