My elderly father's cat keeps scratching the stair carpet, he had been trying pet-shop remedies without success, we bought him Emmy's to which he baulked at the price, but used it nevertheless. It worked a treat, he ran out and tried the pet-shop ones again as they were cheaper, but didn't work. So he's back to Emmy's again, still moaning about the price but the stair carpet now remains safe!
The effect of this product on my cat's behavior was immediate. Thank goodness! I was at my wits end on what to try next. For the first time, I had adopted an older cat rather than a kitten, and all of my patented training techniques were not working. He was destroying my furniture, carpet, ate all my house plants, and owned the dining table. He did not care about "the bad kitty bottle," no interest in cat nip, and not very food motivated. Double sticky tape would stop him in his tracks but never stopped him from trying and as soon as the tape fell off he was back into whatever. I sprayed this product in all his favorite scratching spots, immediately he left them alone. I sprayed it around edges of the dining table, he hasn't been on it in 24 hours. He's actually using the scratching posts/cat furniture I got him and strategically placed around the house. Plus, unexpected bonus, the dog has been giving the dining table a wide berth too. I'll see how the fading procedure goes but so far this product is voodoo magic sent from behavioral heaven. 100% recommend.
Because I’m a sadist, I decided to buy a new-to-us couch two weeks after bringing home two kittens. Our previous couch had been all scratched up by our older cats, so I wanted this new couch to avoid that fate at all costs. With a disbelieving and disapproving husband tsk-ing me, I did some research and decided to couple this spray with big pieces of cat tape for the sides. Thank goodness for same-day shipping! I ordered everything the day I picked up the new couch, but there was a six-hour window where the kittens were yelling “thanks for the new scratching post, Mom!” Of course, because they are cats, they went straight for the couch and it took a lot of diligence to keep them from scratching.
Six hours later, the Amazon box shows up and I immediately put the tape on the sides and spray this all over the arms and back of the couch. It has a pretty strong smell that I don’t love (but have gotten used to), but my husband walked in and asked “What smells so good?” For what it’s worth, his favorite smell is lemon grass, so this is better suited for people who love that smell. But who cares if it’s strong when it WORKS! It hasn’t stopped the cats from going on the couch (which is good because we like cuddles), but they haven’t scratched it in the last 5 days since we got the couch and tried this spray. I don’t think I needed to get the cat tape at all (they preferred scratching the arms anyway).
I’m following the directions and sprayed 3-4 times a day the first few days, but now I’m just going morning and night. Hopefully they’ll just learn that the couch isn’t theirs and I can stop the routine quickly.
100% recommend to anyone with cat scratching problem on furniture! my cat ruined my first couch so badly that when we move we bought a new nice one. i really didn’t want to buy a new one because of her but this spray has deterred her so well in a good manner. she is only deterred from the spots we spray which is the corners and base. she doesn’t scratch there but still comes on top with me to cuddle. perfect match made in heaven! please try!! this is your solution
This works!! My bf doesn’t like the smell so maybe a boy deterrent as well lol. But overall it does it’s job, you have to spray multiple times day though because the smell does wear off and then they are back at it but I have faith over time they will stop all together. This product to me smells like Bengay. Not the best but not the worst, Good Luck!
This really works. I had to apply it A LOT at first, as the scent wears off but it immediately deterred my cat when I applied it. And over time, he stopped scratching the wicker chair altogether. I provided him with alternative scratching posts of different materials. This is a training aid, not a miracle.
That said, it had no effect on my other cat. She wasn’t the problem, but it clearly demonstrated to that it is an individual thing. My scratcher reacted to it immediately, essentially cringing away. I almost felt bad. But not that bad ...
PS. I like the smell of rosemary. But it is strong when you first spray it on!!
This really worked, but you have to spray it frequently (every couple of hours). Our cat was scratching our front rug so much that was shredding. I tried this out of desperation and at first just sprayed it once or twice a day and didn't see any results. I finally got so frustrated that I started spraying it every couple of hours and poof! her scratching stopped! I kept it up for about a week and then stopped. Its been about 6 months and she still hasn't started scratching there again! (I do have a flat scratching box in a different location that keeps her happy now. I had it before too but she ignored it and instead used the rug).
The stuff works really well. My mom has cats that are indoor/outdoor and love to scratch on her furniture so I decided she needed to try this since red duct tape on the edges of her furniture isn’t exactly pretty. Since it says to spray 3 times a day for the first two weeks and looking at some reviews I decided the best thing to do is spray the furniture immediately upon letting the cats in the house so they are instantly deterred. So for the first week or so do this and then slowly back down after that. Once the cats got used to not scratching it they seem to have just gotten used to leaving it alone altogether.
I wanted to give it time to see how long it was effective, and it is AWESOME! I have my own cats, and do rescue work. This stuff works, and lasted about a month after use! You will smell it for about 5-10 minutes after using, but then only the pets will smell it. VERY effective. My scratcher is no longer scratching the furniture. Great for training cats to stay off tables, counters, drapes, wherever they are not allowed. A few spritzes on furniture (left no stain), or apply on the side of cabinets or tables & chairs, and they will leave it alone. I should buy stock in this company!
