Doesnt do anything to keep my cats away from clawing my new furniture. I'd so wished this had worked. Very unfortunate for my poor furniture. I have no idea what to do now. This did smell very nice. Kinda like vics vaporub but refreshing. Might work for others but not mine :/ too expensive for not promising to work.
My cat is stubborn. When I bought a plant to deter her from eating my plants in the kitchen window, I repeatedly found her curled up by the pot (it didn’t deter her, it was just another challenge that she overcame.)
And we’ve tried other scratching deterrents, placing kitty-friendly scratching posts throughout the house, but she only likes scratching the couch & the stair carpeting. So I bought this with my expectations set pretty low. I just had to try, but had resigned myself that we were going to be “cat people” and not “furniture people.”
I didn’t even try it the first day that it came. Again, low expectations. Finally, I decided it was time to try it out. I’m a little sensitive to scents, so I noticed the odor right away. It really wasn’t so bad. As long as I can spray & then leave the room for a bit, I’m good.
But here’s the miracle - IT WORKS! After several days of spraying multiple times a day, she no longer scratches the furniture or the stairs. I’m working down to twice a day, and hope that soon she is able to be trained to use only appropriate scratching posts, but it’s definitely progress. I have put off buying new furniture, but if this lasts, we’re going furniture shopping! Maybe we can be “cat people” AND “furniture people” after all!
The stuff works really well. My mom has cats that are indoor/outdoor and love to scratch on her furniture so I decided she needed to try this since red duct tape on the edges of her furniture isn’t exactly pretty. Since it says to spray 3 times a day for the first two weeks and looking at some reviews I decided the best thing to do is spray the furniture immediately upon letting the cats in the house so they are instantly deterred. So for the first week or so do this and then slowly back down after that. Once the cats got used to not scratching it they seem to have just gotten used to leaving it alone altogether.
I wanted to give it time to see how long it was effective, and it is AWESOME! I have my own cats, and do rescue work. This stuff works, and lasted about a month after use! You will smell it for about 5-10 minutes after using, but then only the pets will smell it. VERY effective. My scratcher is no longer scratching the furniture. Great for training cats to stay off tables, counters, drapes, wherever they are not allowed. A few spritzes on furniture (left no stain), or apply on the side of cabinets or tables & chairs, and they will leave it alone. I should buy stock in this company!
The product itself is fine, but the sprayer devise, as is unfortunately true with most of the anti-cat scratching products, is hard to operate. In this case, spray comes out for a couple of squirts and then doesn't come out for a squirt, comes out for a couple of squirts, doesn't come out for a couple of squirts, etc. It is hard enough to cover the entire surface of two large upholstered chairs without having sprayer troubles. The product itself is effective for a couple of weeks before having to reapply, which is typical and to be expected.
Not sure what the thickness review means because it is a spray. My cat had one spot on the carpet at the top of the stairs he would scratch at. I have used it for 3 days now and so far he has not scratched at that area at all and do not see that he has moved to another area. I love the smell of it! The smell does not stay long but it is pleasant. I guess not to the cat. But so glad I found this! I have very thick carpet but at some point his scratching would have showed.
Adopted an adorable covid kitten - but he has decided my office chair and headboard or perfect scratching posts. The first time I sprayed down each surfaces he ran up to investigate what new thing was happening on his play space. And I could actually see him scrunch up his nose in disgust as he turned away. Per the instructions I’ve continued to re-spray the areas to similar results. This is definitely an attempt at reducing the habit of scratching seems to be working well so far.
I bought this for keeping my cats off my office chair that is conveniently located under a window. The scent is great, like my calming bedtime spray, but it's only effective right after you spray it. So, when I go to work, I can't keep the door open since the cats will scratch the chair. I might try the tape next to protect it from them using it as a post.
My last sofa, my cat destroyed. Since I moved and bought new sofas, I wanted something to deter my furry friend and his claw attacks. Just a little spray goes a long way. In fact, I only need to pick up the bottle now and he runs away. The scent is a little strong, but so effective. I tend to spray a little around the sofa before bed, just to make sure he's not tempted to claw the sides while I'm not around. So this gets a high recommendation from me.
I have two adorable and very frisky cats. I needed something to discourage them from trashing my new couch. They had done a decent job on the old one but it was old so I didn't really care. I have been using Emmy's scratch deterrent for a few weeks now and I'm happy to say my couch is still wholly in tact! I will continue using this stuff and I have high hopes it will help with my Christmas tree this year! I've included a photo of my couch leg!
