This book has a lot of unusual empanada filling recipes and that's a good thing. At it's heart an empanada is simply a hand pie. It, and other hand pies, are really the first "sandwich". But more than just a sandwich empanadas are a portable feast. This book does a great job of reminding the cook that they can be creative and adventuresome and have fun doing it.
If you are new to making empanadas I think you will become eager to make every recipe. Personally, it is my goal to make sue my family members have a pie in every pocket.
