I've been buying Ernie Ball bass strings for many years, but recently purchased a new Ibanez SR300E which came with Ibanez brand strings out the box. I couldn't believe how easy the guitar was to play; very little effort required. The Ibanez strings inevitably lost their shine so I changed them, going back to the same Slinky string gauge that I always have done... Man. The difference is unbelievable. The EBs feel coarse and sluggish by comparison. Straight out the pack they feel dull, like they've been used before and sold second hand. They really make the same guitar play entirely differently, and I've no idea why it's taken me so long to realise how bad these strings truly are. Avoid unless you like cramp in your forearms.
These strings are brilliant! I have been playing bass guitar for over 15 years, and have used many brands over the years. I started using these around 10 years ago, and I've never been tempted to go back to using other brands. They keep their bright new sound for a long time, and are great for playing slap bass too.
I've used a lot of strings in my life, searching for strings that got the perfect balance between bright, punchy and warm.
These Ernie Balls more than strike that balance! The strings feel great on the bass (purely a matter of prefence of course, but I love the feel), with a clean and smooth feel that makes playing a real joy and comfortable on your fingers. As mentioned, the tone is perfectly balanced, giving you a lot of versatility in terms of achieveing a specifc sound (I go from funk to rock to death metal so this versatility is great).
My only complaint is that these strings could last a little longer, tending to last about a month as opposed to elixirs which last me about 2 and a half months (of course sometimes that mellower, "used" sound is beautiful in its own right!).
Slinky bass strings, what more can be said. I like them, everyone has the preference but I love fresh skinkies. I'll change them every week if I have too! Which I don't, bit of string cleaner stuff helps a lot. More so on bass than guitar strings as I find bass strings take a lot more grub and grease off of your fingers than flimsy guitar strings
The strings feel dull straight out of the pack , slapping and plucking felt hard and unresponsive . I don't have a top of the range bass but these strings have taken it down in my opinion, and the playability is poor, especially when slapping .
