Bottom line, it is still great, but there is definitely a problem on the lower-half of the mask. It just doesn't have enough coverage on the lower half to stay in place when putting the mask on & taking it off.
The alignment of the nose portion is frequently off. This is particularly exacerbated when you're playing "share the quest with family" people who pull the Quest down their face using natural motions but without awareness of the cover, will find this weird piece flopping around on their face.
One particularly non-tech-savvy family member wound up wearing the nose portion as a chin strap. I tried to explain, but to no avail.
This could probably be fixed by including a bit more material on the lower portion to perhaps "pinch" between the removable frame and the headset.
I still love the product, but after having used it with dozens of people on a particularly high traffic headset, it definitely isn't perfect.
The spot where your nose goes is also aligned properly and blocks the light out. This felt weird to me as I often used to tilt my head up to see the game monitor, or to confirm where I was pointing to make sure I was pointing towards the camera. (I record videos for YouTube) I tend to feel much more immersed because I don't have that bottom light pushing in all the time.
For the first time ever playing VR my face was not sore from the sponge irritating my face due to sweat and movement.
The only con I find with this is that my face got much hotter within the mask, which caused me to sweat a lot more inside the mask. The air not being able to enter through the bottom gap is the culprit to this, so I suggest keeping something handy to wipe your face down! (I recommend a microfiber cloth to reduce irritation.)
While it may not fit perfectly, and it causes the inside of the mask to get hotter, I would still suggest anyone with the original Oculus Rift to grab this if the original foam on the mask bothers you to clean, or hurts your face. the only thing keeping this from getting a 5 from me is where it's not designed specifically for the original Rift. I would have loved to see one that fits properly and had a notch for the cable that comes out of the headset. That spot was a little tricky to get tucked into place.
It fits the stock interface perfectly and pretty good on the AMVR interface (sans padding) which is what I am using this with right now because it gives me a bit more field of view than the stock interface does. The thing that really surprised me with this is how comfortable it feels as it is more comfortable than the pleather padding of the AMVR interface. I am able to tighten the Quest more than I used to because of this which helps eliminate any minor movement.
The one negative I could see is the nose flaps could press against one's nose if it is bigger or shaped in a way that doesn't work well with them. The solution there would be to cutout the flaps which only have the purpose of blocking out a good portion of the nose gap. I'm generally a fan of the nose gap since I can quickly look through it to see where in my play space I am yet I am managing with it pretty much most of it being blocked off for me right now. One benefit of this is I play with a high powered floor fan and before, I'd get a bit of the air coming in through the nose gap which would start to dry out my eyes a bit. With this, it is blocking out the air so my eyes are staying comfortable.
It can slightly stick a bit to your face depending on how much you're sweating and I guess that could be seen as a negative to some. I'm fine with it since it means an even better seal on the head/face and you only notice this when taking it off and it's not painful or anything like that.
Overall, I can definitely recommend this to anyone looking to increase the comfort of their Quest while also wanting something that helps with cleaning up sweat. It's so much better than the AMVR interface and padding set in terms of comfort and use which is over twice the price. I was not expecting much from this yet I am really blown away by the improvement.
I bought two so that if one is being cleaned or drying, we have a backup that can be used instead of risking getting sweat on the foam.
The only small issue I have is that the length of silicone around the nose piece is quite short and comes off if remove the headset. Perhaps if it was a little longer there it would fit better or it wouldn't slide off so easily but this is a minor issue.
Yah, this was a return. Spend the extra money and get VR Cover instead.
It is confortable and I do like the covers in the nose area as it keeps out more light that seeps in the bottom with the normal cover and with he VRCover. Confort is good and it is easy to wipe off. The cover just fits over the existing cover and is pretty light. IT however doesn't really fasten to it, so at times you will need to re-adjust, especially on the nose piece depending on how careful you take on and off. Easy to do, but something I nevery worried about with the VRCover replacement cover.
If the silicone was longer on the outside portion, you could pinch it between the plastique adapter and the headset itself and basically make this product perfect.
I highly recommend this cover, especially if you're going to be sharing your headset with a lot (or any) other people.
It's also easier to clean sweat off it. It's a bit expensive for a mere piece of plastic that comes in a ziplock bag, but it gets the job done.
