One of best things about (most) of the books on Kindle is that they are priced well enough to allow me to read much more and discover more great authors and unique story lines that entertain.
The first of a series, a very long series I hope, this book introduces a young hero that starts out just wanting to better his place in the world and through circumstance ends up bettering the lives of many throughout the galaxy, and kicking ass to boot.
The back story of his internal conflict to retain his humanity as he removes the detritus of the galaxy with little mercy adds interest to the tale.
All in all I Highly Recommend this new author and once again, hopefully very very long series (and soon) to all Sci-fi Adventure readers.
------------
For this interested, up until earlier this year I had never given more than 4 stars to any book, as none were (could be?) perfect. I can to the conclusion that my criteria was totally wrong. My ratings are now, 3 stars, enjoyed but prob won't read again; 4 stars, liked the book and seek more from the same author as I can; 5 stars, enjoyed the book markedly, will re-read many times and will actively look for more by the same author at least monthly, buying his/her titles pretty much sight unseen.

First of My Kind is the story of Nathan Myers, a Missouri farm boy who, through a chain of events that happens halfway across the galaxy, finds his way from the seat of his Grandfather's tractor to the command of a starship from a lost super race.
Nathan will tell you in his own words about the life and death struggles he encounters on his journey. He will tell you about the humor, peril, and pain of his galactic education. Even with the help of an eccentric A.I. and the most unlikely of allies, he still finds it easy to lose his humanity to the horrors and injustice of a galaxy no one could have imagined.

To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyses reviews to verify trustworthiness.

WOW what a first book for a wonderful new writer. This is a great story much like the 'old time' science fiction classics from years ago I remembered from my early reading years as a firm sci fi fan. A rollocking space adventure of decent length covering many aspects and topics of a fertile mind. A great new talent is Marc Stevens and I hope he has many more stories to tell because I will certainly be looking for anything new from this author. All encouragement to him to continue with this high standard of entertainment. I have been reading sci fi for over 57 years and enjoyed all the old classic sci fi authors and the great space operas and other themes allied to the broad spectrum of all things termed sci fi. This book is right up with those great stories and if this book was published back in the 50's or 60' it would have been an instant classic. I was a little disappointed that some critics were prominent about the number of graphical errors in the writing, I did not find this detrimental to my enjoyment of this book. I encounter this a lot as I often seek out new authors books and unless they are very bad I do not worry about this. I have found some terrific new authors in my Amazon searches and for me, Marc Stevens would be very near the top of the tree. I have not yet completed the book, only about 8% to go but I was so excited with this story I had to write a short review. Marc I thank you for this book, congratulations and keep going.

When I started the book l fell that the intro to the main character was a bit long.
Once the story got going it was great.
The action was fast paced and a exciting read.
There was just the right amount of romance and the characters matured at the right rate in line with the story time line.
A great read and I await the next installment with great anticipation.

I too at first hesitated.....Will I get it or not mmmm. Although there are minor mistakes and some tech overload, I found it extremely hard to put down.
With me, humour within a novel IS important, in this novel it was spot on.
Sadly the story has ended, hoping though there WILL be more, sooner rather than later.

I enjoyed this book. Don't let the farmboy slock fool you, the main character starts off as a white knight but changes with the reality of the galaxy around him. Little things have major effects and it all c0mes together in an entertainig story. Looking forward to yoir next book

A very raw and gritty dive into the galactic sewer. No punches pulled and some revealing glimpses of what makes us human. Bring on book 2.

This is the first of Marc Stevens’ work that I’ve tried and I’m well on the way to adding him as a favourite. A great story that kept me entertained throughout. Highly recommended.

non stop action, intro a bit slow but persevere, character driven story of an alien ship with a fully functioning AI, and a homespun American yokel, brought to gather to save the galaxy.

It was amazing from the first page to the last

I was very surprised and impressed with the quality of this book. It was amazing from the first page to the last.awesome! very well written! Mr.Stevens will kept you interested from the beginning right to the very end. I can only hope from the way he ended it that there will be more to follow. I have read hundreds possibly even thousands of sci-fi books over the years and this is one of the very best. I highly recommend it to anyone to read ,they will not be disappointed. Also would like to add that the way he kept the story "moving" from one situation to another, it showed just how much thought, effort, planning and just plain work that was put into this book. It would be very upsetting to all your readers to not follow thru with more. Thank you, Mr. Stevens. Please make sure there is another one on the way for us to read very soon.

Couldn't even finish this one. Shallow character development, silly plot, all the technology ideas appear lifted from better works and with no depth. Started off as promising when all the events were on earth and the author obviously has some knowledge of flying and arms. Once off earth, it read like a children's book.
