Been looking high and low for a nice-ish chess set, wanted wood, and minimum of 15 inches/ 38cm. Then realised I really wanted it to have checkers also as my grandparents nice set had that we played on all the time as a kid. This set includes chess and checkers, and even though I thought I wanted a larger sized set, I’m glad I only went this big. The quality is MUCH nicer than one of those 6 in 1 type sets that includes more games all together and surely can’t be as nice as the ones I was seeing that were in the $300 range. That being said the quality seems really good for the $50ish I paid for it. The pieces all feel pretty nice in hand and I am really liking the piece/ board size.
The pieces all have green felt on the bottom and there are extra queens. Strangely the checkers did not include extras, so when you get to the other end and need to stack them- you may be out of luck. Would love if there’s any way to reach the company and get a few extra. Additionally, the little clasps that keep the set closed seem a bit low end, but not terrible.
One other thing to note is that you will have to remove all pieces from their storage to be able to turn the board over to play. Not too big of a deal but it is what it is.
It’s well finished for the price, and the fact that it’s checkers and chess is great. It’s pretty much exactly what I was hoping for- a good quality set that wasn’t too expensive, looks and feels nice and is fun to use. Very happy with it- though would have loved the extra checker pieces to have been included. (See attached photos).
