Kicking The Hornet's Nest Never Ends Well

John Lee's burning desire for answers has led him to kick over the galactic order earning him the title of Breaker Of The Galaxy. He has burnt friendships, betrayed allies, started wars and revolutions and is now on the run. Although he's driven his actions don't exactly make him a sympathetic or likeable character. It was great to see someone, the reporter finally call him out on his hypocrisy especially when he was ragging on the religious sect who are the flip side of the quester coin. The tension on his team really shows through as they travel in the forbidden zone. I'm glad we got a look at this part of the system. Plenty of action and we are starting to get answers and hints of what is behind the curtain. It ended on a cliffhanger which given John's actions was obviously coming. The payoff will be worth the wait. Not a entry level novel for the series.

John & his fellow rebels escape into the Forbidden zone to try and complete his quest and stay alive at the same time. Fighting, fighting, fleeing, and hiding seems to be the way to go whilst in the forbidden zone.
Good story & it’s all coming to a huge conclusion in the next/last book.

The author uses the BS excuse that this is a "middle book" to justify the fact that book eleven of the series is little more than the first part of the finale. It could have been, possibly should have been, the beginning of the final book - but massively expanding the 'journey' from Planet A to Planet B, hundreds of unnecessary pages filled up with nothing exciting or relevant to the overall picture - allows the "middle book" scheme to rake in some more cash for the author and publisher from readers.

Book eleven does two things. Takes the story from the Galactic capital to the planet in the Forbidden Zone, where John needs to get to to finish his quest. Introduces the fact that there is someone or something all-powerful/all-seeing and the System might just be more than anyone thinks it is or, possibly, understands.

This journey. The 'higher-up' in the System Administrator system. It could have all been tied up in a hundred pages. But, instead, you get book eleven.

If the author wishes to concentrate more on his other, co-authored books, set in an earlier period in the over-all series chronology, and explore the initial fall-out on Earth due to the System's arrival, then do so and leave off writing the final part of John's story for a few years. A Fist Full of Credits, co-authored with Craig Hamilton, is a great book. Book eleven of The System Apocalypse, Forbidden Zone, is not. Its, possibly, nothing more than cashing in. In my opinion.

Really enjoying the System Apocalypse but felt on reflection that this entry was probably the weakest in the series. It's light on content, progress and character development and is a pretty short book compared to the last few installments.

Hopefully this is just one of those books which is more about positioning for the finale then delivering in its own right as I'm sure we are in for an amazing culmination to a great series.

Looks like there is an error on the print length description which advises the book is 428 pages long, the kindle edition is 325 pages long including the glossary which is long so only 300 pages of actual story.

Roll on next February and fingers crossed we get the final book this excellent series deserves!
