Another solid book from Joy Ellis. The story is engaging, the pace is quick and there are enough twists and turns to keep the pages turning. One of the aspects I really enjoy about Ellis' books is the way she writes cooperative team work; there is always a sense that the characters and various teams are working together to solve a case rather than the in-fighting or lone-wolf type tropes that plague the genre. I look forward to reading her next release.

Again a great thriller by Joy Ellis. I simply couldn't put it down. Her characterisation is wonderful and I was able to really feel a connection to them. Ms Ellis keeps you engrossed till the last page. I highly recommend this book but not if you need a good sleep because it is difficult to put it away.

I loved this story, so well written which we all expect from Joy Ellis. I have read all her books, the story lines are brilliant, thought provoking, interesting and some are great who done its. Will hope there are many more books from this amazing writer.

I find it very difficult to put Joy's books down once I start reading them. I love her characters and hiw they've developed and I love her plots, always interesting with a nice twist at the end. I just hope she can write faster as I think I've nearly caught up with her.

Another gripping read. Another twist to the tale. Interesting plot & subplot. Joy Ellis knows how to mix 2 storylines bringing them to a successful collusion . Really enjoyable read.

Apart from a police procedural this is a tale of survivor guilt and atonement to those who perished. Its very deep and personal journey, very well plotted, and with a number of surprising twists near the end. One of Joy Ellis' best.

Great read with plenty of ‘yes I know who did it’, only to be proven wrong. Much better writer than another female crime writer with initials FM, Joy really fills in the details, seemed more like a real police station at work. Didn’t turn out as expected in the end but not every cloud has a silver lining. You also get to pick up a little knowledge of Psychology along the way. Bravo Joy, will be downloading more for sure.

More twists in the plot than you could imagine.
Gripping with the storyline and an interesting dialogue that will keep you reading right to the very end.
The final chapters keep your heart pumping as you realise you've worked it out

Too many characters

They say too many cooks spoil the broth. The same applies to characters in a book. There were so many people in it that it gave me a headache. I thoroughly enjoyed my first book by this author but absolutely hated this one. The first one was a page turner of anticipation but this was a page turner of "please get me to the end of this nonsense"
Will give her one more go and see what I think.

Another cracking read

I always enjoy a Joy Ellis novel. All the novels I have read have been set in or around the Fens ofNorfolk - an area I know well and can therefore visualise the fictional towns and villages she populates her novels with.
As the story line progresses the author is able to weave in the main characters and their lifestyles and history, making the characters very believable.
This novel is a crime thriller and revolves around a missing person - is she dead or has she just disappeared, whilst weaving in other crimes to be resolved.
Fast paced (and I could certainly have read this in about two sessions - but read more slowly to savour the novel)
For me - a surprise ending - but I am not telling you what it is!

A change from the Nikki Galena books I have read ...

A change from the Nikki Galena books I have read but an interesting plot which I did not guess where it was going to end. I live in the Lincolnshire area now so can relate to a lot of her books and find the plots complex and very readable. This is a 'stand alone' book so does not need to follow any other one of hers.

Oh this is so good and so well written. No kidding I could not put it down and left everything I should be doing to read it. First off I thought 'man being visited by dead friends'....maybe not but then I quickly got into it. Lots of twists and turns, can you believe everything you see, everything you sense? So not what I expected at the end. First time I have read this author but now will read everything she has written. Superb crime thriller.

Four friends dead, one alive and a murder.
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 22 June 2018Verified Purchase
I did enjoy this book although the plot was a little unbelievable. Five guys returning from a stag weekend in Amsterdam in a small plane. The plane crashes leaving one survivor, a police officer. He returns to work 18 months later, but sees the ghostly images and smells the burnt flesh of his four friends. They want him to carry out one last request for them, and then they'll disappear and leave him in peace. Whether it's his subconscious doing overtime, or he can really see these ghostly apparitions I'm not sure.
The plot then revolves around the search for the murderer of one of said friends late wife, whose body has been missing since the plane crash. Then the niece of Jackman and Evans's boss is being stalked. In a roundabout way the two are linked.
I had a suspicion what was going on and who the murderer was, about 3/4 of the way through, but I didn't expect the ending to conclude the way it did.
I prefer the DI Nikki Galena books to this series, but they do make good reading 📚 all the same.
