5.0 out of 5 stars Great Pads, but not for Hardcore Sports
Reviewed in Canada on 5 July 2020
I have heard a lot about these knee pads on skating forums and they got great reviews on Amazon so I thought I'd give them a shot. Some friends and I ordered them so I got to try a few sizes: medium, large, and x-large.

My initial impressions were that these pads are very lightweight and won't offer a lot of impact protection if you are colliding with something, in other words I don't think it would take much to bruise your knee if you took a hard hit. However for somebody like me who plans to use these for inline skating I'm not anticipating many hard hits, I just need something with light impact/abrasion protection that can fit underneath my jeans. And these definitely seem like they will deliver on that front. Jeans are definitely a good idea unless you are ok replacing them after a few good falls, they don't seem like they will hold up too well to sliding on their own.

Using the guide on the Amazon photo I measured 8 inches above the center of my knee cap and measured the circumference of my thigh. Then I measure the maximum circumference of my calve and recorded those values to be 20" and 13.5". Based on this I should be a medium or large (I ordered large for myself). The package these knee pads came in had a different sizing chart on the back as some other reviewers have mentioned. This packaging appears to be left over from the old Pro-X knee pads and repurposed for the Pro-X2's. Sort of lame but for the purpose of delivering something in the mail I'm not going to make too big of a deal out of this. I would use the sizing on Amazon/G-Form website for these specific knee pads because they come up higher than the old ones do.

I tried on the x-larges, definitely too big, however they still gripped my calves, which means that my chicken calves that measure 13.5" do fill out the extra larges that claim to start at a calf circumference of 16". It seems like they would be tight on somebody at the upper end of the XL calf measurement (17.5"), just food for thought. My thigh filled out the upper part but it was not very snug.

The larges fit really well, and is the size I ordered for myself. Something to note is that the large and x-large knee pads are the same height and use the same foam piece.

The mediums were definitely a little on the snug side, but not that much snugger than the larges. The reason this is the case is because the mediums are about an inch and a half shorter than the large and x-large pads, this means that they sit further down my thigh at a point that is measurably smaller. From the photo I have included you can see that the mediums use a smaller foam protector than the large and x-large pads. This becomes important if you want the pads to wrap around your knee and protect the sides of your knee. I found that the mediums did not do this as well as a large pads did simply because the foam piece is scaled-down.

To conclude, use the sizing guide g-form provides for the pads. If you are close to the upper end of one of the sizes consider moving up a size.

Here's a tip for getting these pads on and off, roll the silicone bands over on themselves so that they aren't touching your skin. Then you should be able to slide these on and off like a tight sock before flipping the silicone strip back onto your skin.

1.0 out of 5 stars Sizing all wrong

Was looking to wearing this for electric unicycling, but the sizing chart I received was all off from the online sizing chart. I have a 20” thigh, so the M should fit, however the knee pads I received were way too tight. According to the package sizing, I should be an XL. So which is it? Either I received the wrong item (labelled as pro x2) which is unlikely or received some fake or really outdated item. Cant trust I’ll get the proper item, so its going back.

After measuring 8 times, and even sending the measurements to g-form via email to verify their sizing, I took two sizes up from what they recommended. Everyone else is saying to at least go up one size. I was recommended a xs from my measurements, ordered a small, I needed a medium in the end. Padding is flexible so it’s nice and offers medium protection. If you skate ramps I totally suggest plastic knee pads as a hard fall still messes up your knees pretty badly, as opposed to plastic you wouldn’t feel a thing. Overall quality is not that great, it’s foam sewn on to a compression sleeve. Foam tears very easy, keep them underneath pants or the first fall the foam will rip right off. Also be careful putting them on/off, pulling on the padding will rip it right off the compression sleeve. Overall descent pads, but these should be a 30$ pad based on quality, not 70$

3.0 out of 5 stars Decent value, but comfort issues

I am neutral about these pads. I've used them for a few months, and the first and only fall on them left a rip in the stretchy lycra portion (and I got scratched underneath it, I took the pictures months later). However, you can see some cuts on the foam that did protect my knee during that fall, and the rip hasn't gotten any bigger through use, so that's good.

My biggest problem is with comfort. For some reason, if I position it centered on my kneecap, then it really bothers my knee and causes pain during pedaling (almost like the kneecap isn't free to move while I pedal). I have to wear them slightly lower than where the should be for my leg to fully bend and be comfortable, which leaves more of my upper knee/leg vulnerable during a fall.

They also don't make me feel hot during the summer which is good. Overall, they're ok and do add some protection, I just wish they were more durable and comfortable.
