We took the standard keychain multi-tool and made it better. In addition to stainless steel pliers, wire cutters, a fine edge blade, spring-loaded scissors, flathead screwdriver, crosshead driver, tweezers and file, the Dime includes a unique blade designed to safely cut and score plastic packaging and a bottle opener that is exposed even when the tool is closed. Compact and lightweight, the Dime is the most valuable change you'll find in your pocket.

If you're after a pocket sized multi tool, go for a Victorinox or Leatherman instead. This may be cheaper but it's a false economy.
Okay so I have read other reviews on here about the Gerber Dime and many people report that their multitool has broken with use. I think perhaps people are forgetting that this NOT a heavy duty piece of equipment - it's a mini lightweight multitool for doing small things, like opening up packaging, cutting string, opning bottles of beer and other minor things.
I've had my purple Gerber Dime for a month now and I am delighted with it. Just remember it's limitations and it works a treat. I keep mine on my keyring and gets used on a daily basis for all sorts of things. From opening post and packages, to cutting small annoying loose threads on my clothes.
Opening up the Dime tools for use, it's quite stiff, but perhaps after months of regular use, it will loosen up a bit.
All tools fold away bar the bottle opener at the end of the Dime. It's fixed in place, but it's a very good tool indeed - It gets a good hold of the cap and removes it with ease. Wish the same could be said about my Victorinox Manager.
My favourite tool is the dedicated package opener. I'd normally use a regular knife to open up parcels etc, but this package opener works like a charm, and cuts through those annoying plastic heat-sealed packages like a knife through butter. If it can cut through that, it can easily cut through cardboard and paper!
Also has a regular knife on the Dime, also great for cutting through packaging and the like. Very sharp, so be careful with it.
Scissors are great. Cuts threads easily from clothing, or when I'm sewing. Also breezes though wrapping paper and sticky tape.
Th pliers I have not used yet, but they seem durable enough for small jobs. Always handy to keep on your person, you never know when you might need them.
Small flathead screwdriver and nail file I have never used yet. Although the nail file seems rather pathetic and too small to do the job intended for it. An afterthough perhaps?
Also if you look closely, there is tweezers tucked away in one of the arms of the Dime. It's very flat and compact, you won't notice it was there unless you were actually looking for it. The tweezers work very well, mostly for plucking hairs and removing splinters from my fingers when that happens.
Overall a great little multitool, just remeber it's limitations and you'll get along with it like two peas in a pod. I don't know how I managed without it before...it has a million uses and I use mine every single day without fail. I love the metallic purple colour of my Dime and I take great care not to scratch or bash it about. I understand that the colour starts to scratch off with much use and abuse after a while.
Overall, great wee tool. Love it so much. Reccomend.
Most used have been the mini pliers and parcel opening thingy, oh and the bottle opener. I was concerned that the opener Would dig in when it’s in you pocket but it has been fine.
Only complaint is that the tools are a little stiff to open so you need strong thumbnails.
There's a rumour that there's a pair of tweezers included, but I certainly haven't been able to find them.
