This toy however is super robust. He still pulls at the feathers and tried to take his kill away but none of the feathers have come out and the rod has a bit of bend to it so it is nowhere near fragile enough for him to snap doing this.
I was concerned I was paying over £10 for something I can get at a pound shop but this is far superior in the way the feathers flap about when moved fast and the durability. All of the times I’ve purchased those disposable versions add up and I wish I’d just invested in this sooner!
My only issue with this is that I wish the heads of the toy were a bit cheaper as I’d like some other versions but the only ones I can find cost almost as much as the toy and whole rod again!
P.S. - Literally FIVE minutes after writing the above review, when teasing Alfie with it and allowing him to catch the feathers, the metal pin separated from it's counterpart!!! I cannot fit it back in (so super-glue won't help this time) and, having used super-glue for the first fault, I won't be able to send it back. I'm NOT happy (especially at this price) - and nor is Alfie.
It really is true. There is something very realistic about how this thing moves. I would chase it if my cats could dangle it for me! Personally, I don't allow them to play alone with it, as anything they can choke on is a danger, and sooner or later the feathers will give up, but that is true of any of these types of products. Great value. You really won't go back.
Of the four we took delivery of, the first quite literally fell apart within 5 minutes. The string knotted to the feathers untied and whilst it might seem pretty straightforward to retie it, it's never the same again.
The second we found the two halves of the stick didn't even hold together. The slot inbetween was so loose, the top half of the stick just falls out when its waved around. I had to butcher the first items stick to make a 'good' stick for the second one.
At £12 each, for what is essentially two pieces of thin plastic, some thin rope and feathers, these are expensive already but you assume the quality is high. It is not.
I didn't look at the picture closely and I think I was expecting something a lot different, especially given the price. It arrived and instantly I was disappointed. It's just a long stick with a feather on the end! The feathers are nice quality but come on, they're just feathers! It's not worth £10.
The product description says "sounds like a bird in flight" which lead my to believe that it would make a cheeping noise of some sort like so many toys do these days. I feel that this is a misleading description for the item.
There are some good points and overall it is a nice little toy for a cat but I just cannot justify the price. The long stick is great because it means you can sit on the sofa or dangle it from the stairs and the cat can run around after it. The feathers are pretty and they make a cool swooshing movement when flying through the air.
My kitten chased it around for a while and after a couple of days she'd already managed to break one of the feathers in half. She's only tiny so I can't imagine how long it would last with a full grown cat!
My kitten does like it and has fun chasing it around, but she loves playing with toilet roll tubes and ribbons more which won't set you back £10.
The feathers rotate when the toy is being waved and cats can't resist. The feathers do break though but not surprising as they are real and the cats get carried away. Expensive, but has become their favourite toy.
The Da Bird was a different story, from the moment it arrived and I was taking it out of the packaging he was watching me open it and waiting in excitement. Whenever I bring it to play he now gets all excited, and runs about chasing it like a lunatic, and after 10 minutes he's a tired and happy cat.
From a human point of view, the Da Bird isnt the greatest as the cable gets tangled up quickly and the rod is quite flimsy. The first Da Bird I bought came apart very quickly and the rod would no longer join together. The second Da Bird I bought lasted much longer, but after a few months the cable had become to wrapped up against the rod.
Despite buying 3 of these, it still deserves 5 star as it's the only toy that my cat really loves. Bin your old toys and replace them with Da Bird, your cat will love you for it. Be warned though, you need to hide it after playtime is over otherwise your cat will destroy it!!
I had heard a lot of good reviews about "Da Bird" so decided that I would bite the bullet and buy it even though it's more expensive than the other bird toys i had bought. I'm SO glad I did! I bought this back in August 2015 and it's still going strong, although has lost a feather or 2. Bella my cat still plays with it every night before bed and as you can tell she hasn't yet managed to bite it apart in any way :)
I'm considering getting one for downstairs too, and will be buying another clip-on item for the one that we currently have.
If you have a kitty that seems to just chew through and completely wreck your usual bird type toy, I beg you to try this one. It's saved me so much money as I was replacing ours every 2 months at least and this one is still going strong.
So yes. The 'real' Da Bird just arrived today, and let me tell you - it is ten times better than my DIY job. It's really cleverly designed so that the feathers twirl around when it moves through the air. My cat goes mad for it. She can't keep her eyes off it and jumps all over the place until she's knackered. And then still she can't resist lifting a paw in an attempt to catch Da Bird.
It is worth the money. Praise to the makers of this product. Best toy i ever bought for my cat. ever!
I can't recommend it enough - the only thing I would say is be careful you don't let them catch the feathers. My son had a go playing with them, he allowed them to catch the feathers and I ended up having to re-tie the thing back on after only minutes out of the packaging!!
Other than that - Brilliant!!
