Edited response after getting the cover: I ordered the cover and finally was able to call it a safe space for my bunny. The cover is a must for active pets that can jump out. Now I let him out when I want to rather than looking for him as he vanishes from the cage.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- its a great cage / pen for my netherland dwarf who is very tiny right now but when i put his food basket and hang it he is able to climb up and jump out. So now i am having to order the top which is another cost. I thought it was included so be careful and read which option you are purchasing. its not very sturdy if you want to pick it up and just walk with it. but its a great size for little animals to be comfortable in.
I have two of these cages now. First, I will start by saying that these are the very best 'store-bought' guinea pig cages you can find, besides having a C&C (cubes and coroplast) made for you, or made yourself. The guinea pigs appreciate the extra space and enjoy running laps and pop-corning. It is nice that the lid is removeable if you want to bring pigs onto grass too. The cage is a bit flimsy, in that if you're moving it around you'll want a board or something put underneath it, thanks to the canvas bottom. The canvas is easy to clean, but some guinea pigs chew on it...even with hay, if interacting with pigs in another cage, etc.
*I will say, my second order came with a damaged top lid. I have not complained to the manufacturer or Amazon though, as am away for work for 6 weeks and know I won't be around to mail defective parts back. I imagine if I had reported it that the issue would have been dealt with swiftly, as Amazon is fantastic with customer service. Even with the damage, the lid is still useable atleast. But do inspect pieces once received, as the metal can be damaged during shipment, which I believe may have been the case for me.
Just bought two 6month old males. They were originally in a slightly smaller cage and they seem to really like this one. The only issue I have had is that my guineas wouldn't go up the ramp because it is too slippy, so I covered the ramp with fleece and now they are going up and down the ramp all the time. I would recommend getting a second Midwest cage to attach so that there is more room for hidey huts and toys. I will be getting a second one when I save up the money. Also really easy to set up. You can put the top on but you can also keep it off for better interaction.
my first deluxe cage I got for free from a friend which included a five years old guinea pig...So I wanted to purchase a second cage in case i needed to clean the canvas...My second cage I bought from Walmart with no top on it..I have to order top pannel from Amazon because I could not find any place to purchase it...At the same time I order a second deluxe cage b.c I wanted 2more guinea pigs plus one panel ....I received really fast my parcel...and purchase my babies guinea pigs...I installed to cages together not easy to built and both top pannel...I was disappointed for quality of the panel...Not fit perfectly specially when 2cages r together...It's enough to protect my guinea pigs from my heavy cat who tend to sit on the cage...So enough solid for 18 pounds...Anyway I still recommend it but will be grateful if they we're adding a better top cage who will fit perfectly...
We have two piggies and when we got them, we bought the largest possible cage we could find at the pet store which was advertised for rabbits and was about 200$. I always felt bad that it wasn't enough space but wasn't sure about building a C&C cage since it's hard to find coroplast and even harder to find it in sizes that match the dimensions of those shelving units you use to build the walls and also worried that building it myself, it wouldn't be water-tight. Anyhow, I finally decided to buy this since it seemed to be the commercial version of a C&C cage. I was skeptical that the canvas bottom would leak but we haven't had any issues with that. Also the walls are high enough that you can still use traditional pet bedding if you want (instead of blankets and cage liners like you usually see).
In terms of sizing, it's great, and I love that it can be expanded by buying more and attaching them together! I do wish the bottom was a little easier to remove, it would make cleaning it a lot easier. With all the velcro straps, its a bit of a production to take off. Also, our hay trough sits outside the cage and it causes a build up of hay in between the wire cage and the canvas which is a bit annoying, but not the end of the world. Overall, i would definitely recommend this to any guinea pig owners. it's the only cage available that is an appropriate size and the price is better than what you'll find in a commercial pet store!
These are great cages for small pets. They're easy to put together and I like that you can attach more than one together. The slight downside is that they need the top to make them sturdy and the base liner is really hard to clean, bug works perfectly go stop liquid coming through.
Perfect for guinea pigs as it is expandale and I have 3 of these little creatures . Got 2 "Habitat" for them, which I connected together so they have this big area to go around. Would probably fit up to 4 guinea pigs. Beware that bottom is not "hard" (more canvas-like) as standard covered plastic cages so it cannot be lifted or carried around as these cages would.
The cage was delivered very quickly and much earlier than the expected date. Pros: - quite a big of living space, it is a lot larger than most the cages you will find in pet stores - has a removable divider to section off living space or to keep guinea pigs in their own section - easy to assemble - top can be completely removed if you want easy access to pigs - fairly inexpensive considering the size of the cage, in comparison to other pet store cages
Cons: - despite the huge space, the cage itself is really flimsy. Some of the walls were curved in probably as a result of the way it was packaged in the box - the PVC bottom liner does not keep shavings and is not very secure with the velcro straps (I ended up making a tray out of coroplast and putting it inside the PVC liner - the doors are positioned at the side of the cages and make it difficult to grasp pigs unless you take the whole top off
Overall, I still really like this cage, mainly because of the price and the size of it. I am using it now for my two guinea pigs. They are still young and small and there is enough space for the both of them (for now). It is a great alternative for those who do not want to build their own C&C cage.
This is perfect for two guinea pigs! My piggies are so happy. When your putting the cage together, just pull the straps tight so the bottom isn't floppy. If you have a cat, buy the top or else your cat might jump into the cage. All in all its a good cage.
great cage floor for guinea pigs (replacement from original) just wish there was an easier way to tie it to the cage - takes very long to undue all the straps to remove it to wash it - wish there were less straps ! but great product nonetheless
