I’ve bought it because I heard about the Grolsch red rubbers. They are similar but unfortunately, it doesn’t work at all with my four basses. My straps are too thick so I can’t even push those rubber strap lockers to fit.
I’ve tried them on one of my guitar as the strap is thinner but it kept popping out rendering this product useless.
As a plus, it looks to be a robust product but that’s it. I bought d’Addario’s plastic strap locks instead.
I've been using high end mechanical strap locks for decades, i.e.: Dunlop, Schaller. I got sick and tired of picking my guitar up off the stand and having to unwind a twisted strap which I had been doing for hundreds of gigs. Not only do these keep the strap from coming off, the strap doesn't rotate around so when you put it down and pick it up again, the strap stays right where you left it. Not to mention the tremendous cost savings over the mechanical locks (I guess I just did mention it). I wish I had switch over to these years ago. Well, like my dad used to say, "Too soon old, too late smart".
My experience with these locks are that they are worse than useless, repeatedly popping off when used with my leather guitar strap and Custom Shop Historic Gibson Les Paul. While using these locks I ended up damaging my Les Paul when the lock popped off and my Les Paul fell to the ground landing on my foot and knocking against my gear rack.
I thought maybe these locks just won’t work with thicker leather guitar straps and the Les Pauls but then recently I decided to try the Fender made locks and they have worked far better. After a month the Fender locks have not popped off once.
The company that sell this lock should either issue a warning with regard to use of this lock and/or revise the formulation or manufacturing process. It’s absolutely shameful to sell a product like this that lulls someone into a false sense of security. While I cannot undamage my custom Shop Historic Gibson Les Paul
