I don't know what you've done, or where you've hidden it, but after a lifetime of debilitating anxiety and depression, the boom-box of doom has stopped yelling at me in my head.
Maybe it's behind the couch, or in a cupboard, screaming into the void, either way, I don't care as I don't have to listen to it any more.
My anxiety first showed up as a stomach ulcer while I was studying for my GCSEs; it morphed into depression; then body dysmorphia; then GAD; then PND - whatever name they put on it, wherever it showed up in my life, it hurt.
I'm one of those people pleasers, who's parents would send me to parties with the instructions to help clear up, I'm there for everyone else in my life, but me, cheering everyone else on, but me.
Until now. I've taken a look at myself in the mirror; the pain I felt is wrapped up in the extra 20kg (44lb) I'm wearing like a security blanket. The insecurity I've felt at having four jobs in two years, but instead of thinking, I kept working through the pandemic, I worried what it looked like on my CV.
Since the 5 day challenge last week, I've lost 3kg, but more importantly - I found myself. I sat on a picnic blanket and watch clouds go past for an hour yesterday, without a thought in my head about what I ought to, should be, could be doing.
It was peaceful inside my head for the first time in thirty years.
Instead of pouring wine down my throat so I don't feel anything, I relished the taste of the glass I had over dinner tonight. I'm sleeping better, and less, because I'm not so damn tired from the BS I've been telling myself, all fricking day.

I bought your book and started reading as soon as I got it.
and then I realize ,this is going to blow my mind. Guess what ,I immediately find out ,that's what I needed, to be My own friend ,as I was always my worst enemy. Literally Mel I bit myself all my life , you sound like you are with me sitting with me in my kitchen and pep talk me. Oh I didn't mention that yet I bought your hardcover book on amazon ,then I decided I have to go out and take you with myself so I downloaded audiobook. Yep I need you ,all my way so I walk for 20k and listen to you ,come back home do all my chores and take you all my way during the day .Sense of control, as I High-five myself in the mirror in the morning ,and that feeling of inner peace and for the first day in my life" I wasn't thinking about it" OMG You will not believe me Mel but that was the Best day in my life , simply because for the first time I believed in myself ,I truly do. Last time I feel similar when I was (9years old) I'm 46 today
