This food is terrible and smells rotten my dog ate very little of it and within half an hour was throwing up. I had tried the small cans of chicken stew before and the first batch was great and he loved it so I purchased a second flat of 24 tins and that whole batch was totally rotten. I thought that was a fluke but this new batch is also rotten. My dog looks and is acting very ill I hope he is going to be ok.
Today I read that this dog food in the lot I purchased from Amazon recently has been recalled due to toxic levels of Vitamin D. The news release describes the symptoms: "The symptoms of vitamin D toxicity in dogs include vomiting, loss of appetite, increased thirst, increased urination, excessive drooling and weight loss." I got this for convenience for our pet sitter while we were on a long trip and also to use later during a move. The dog peed all over the pet sitter's home the whole time he was there--not characteristic. He also vomited later when I fed him this at home, and he was so generally "off" that I didn't know what was wrong. I blamed it on his heartworm medication. The Hills website can provide some restitution according to the story but I haven't called yet. There are many lots affected and the lot number is on the can. Google it for full details.
Really disappointed to see this is advertised as the Chicken and Barley Entrée when Amazon ships the Gourmet Chicken Entrée instead. Unfortunately, my dog is intolerant to something in the Gourmet Chicken Entrée option. This should be fixed on the website to be clear the product has been switched.
Bad product. My dog got sick. I have checked for recalls and found out that this product was withdrawal by manufacturer because of using toxic ingredients. I have researched this food with this particular bar code and found out that A lot of dogs got sick with liver and kidneys problems. Amazon must be Ashamed to sell bad food to families with Dog! It is not always about money but it is about Health of our love ones!
So first off, the product I received was ridiculously damaged. I get it, heavy canned products can go through the wringer when shipped, but the dents that were in these cans were facing inward, meaning they were packaged that way. That's not right.
Also not right: the image of the food in the spoon on the label of these cans is just plain false. It does not look like nice chunks of food, it's another ultra processed food that looks like it's been through the meat grinder. That is so wrong, why are you putting a picture of something other than what your product actually is, and right on the label? I feel lied to.
In addition, my not so picky dog absolutely despises this food. I only ever tried 2 cans, he would not touch the stuff. Even with pieces of chicken mixed in.
I love writing good reviews where they're due, but I cannot in good conscience recommend this to anybody. What a disappointment and a waste.
I foolishly ordered 4 cases of canned dog food, instead of just buying it locally. Got them today. A large number of cans in all 4 cases were damaged. Two cans had a broken seal which I will not feed to our dogs. I don't know where the damage occurred but the boxes they came in were fine. So I assume it happened in the warehouse. Careless workers. Amazon does not replace damaged items. Beware. If you get damaged cans you are stuck with them.
I will never buy a Hills product again. They hide recalls. They “quietly” remove contaminated items from store shelves leaving the consumer in limbo wondering why their dog got sick. Both my dogs ate this & liked it for 5 days. Younger one puked some bile. Didnt know if related to this dogfood. Last day younger dog ate a few bites ran outside & puked. Expensive vet appt. Both dogs incontinent after this dogfood. Stopped feeding them this & incontinence improving.
